02 - A Promise

There were two things All Might first noticed when he burst out of the manhole and out into the fresh air of the underpass. The first was a blonde girl holding up two bottles filled with a green goop and the second was a pair of glistening emerald eyes filled with panic as they met his electric blue eyes. His entire being, down to his very soul, screamed at the titan to move or he wouldn't be able to escape from a grave injury. He gave I to his flight instinct and jumped back just before he felt the surrounding air swirl violently from an invisible force. The entire area where he was standing only a fraction of a moment before was torn to shreds, from the ceiling of the overpass to the asphalt, as if hundreds of unseen blades had cut through it.

"Ahh! Oh my God All Might I'm so sorry!"

The owner of the emerald eyes, a girl with long forest green hair so dark it was almost black, panicked and covered her eyes in a black bandage while profusely bowing in apology. "I was startled and my Quirk went off I didn't mean to attack you I'm so sorry!"

The blonde stared at All Might with her mouth agape but quickly recovered and also bowed in apology, "I'm so sorry she's not dangerous! We were just attacked by this slime creep and-"

"It's all right young ones," All Might let out a booming laugh to hide his nervousness, "I understand that we can panic under pressure and it can lead to accidents. Have no fear I am uninjured, although I must say what a powerful Quirk to make even me be wary and capture a villain that escaped my 'All Mighty' justice!"

""No way All Might just made a pun?"" / "I can't believe I just blurted out a pun."

All Might cleared his throat at the blank stares and awkward silence, "Well I must give you my thanks for capturing the dastardly villain! But do remember that using your Quirk for the capture or assault of villains is considered vigilantism, even in cases of self defense. I will not say anything to law enforcement about your involvement because I see two fine young ladies with the drive and power to become great people! But please remember that for other heroes are not so forgiving."

He smiled when he saw the determined nods from the two girls. Many young aspiring heroes took that advice the wrong way but it would seem these two were well prepared for anything even if it was constructive criticism, a good sign for one's so young. With a few more exchanges of thanks All Might secured the bottles that the slime villain was contained in and was about to jump away when the green haired girl stopped him with a question.

"All Might, do you think anyone can become a hero? Even if they're Quirkless?"

He pondered it for a moment. Logically speaking the answer was no. Heroism is a dangerous profession and while there are many different types of heroes and jobs that are under the umbrella of heroism it still came down to the ability to defend yourself and those around you from any type of danger. It took people with passion and drive to become heroes. He agreed with that logic to some degree but he much preferred the ideology his master and mother figure imparted to him so long ago.

"Many people seem to forget what a hero is. It's much more than a Quirk or power. It's the ability to lead, inspire, and most importantly protect those around you. Some of the greatest heroes in the world and perhaps all of history were not know for their Quirks but rather their ability to bring out the best in others and inspire them to become heroes themselves. So don't get hung up on having a flashy or powerful Quirk. It may help when it comes to popularity but if you want to be a true hero, and I mean a TRUE HERO. Aspire to be a kind leader who can guide and protect those around them. That's a hero, regardless of Quirks or power."

All Might turned to see two sets of eyes filled with the same drive and passion as his younger self and smiled, "With what I see here you two will make fine heroes one day so can you promise me one thing?"

"Of course sir!"

"Anything you can throw at me I'll do!"

"Come to U.A.," All Might nodded at their responses, "show you're ready to become fledging heroes by passing the entrance exams."

The greenette stared at All Might with curiosity, "We were aiming for U.A. since it's the best hero school in Japan but is there any specific reason other than that?"

All Might turned around to hide his excited smile at the questions, "Oh you didn't know? I'll be teaching there starting this year."
