Chapter 23
“Never give up, Liam.”
I chanted in my head as I paced back and forth in my bed room. I’ve been trying endlessly to reach her since Thursday. The first time I tried – after constantly calling and texting that is – was when I saw her at the grocery with Taylor.
“Next on the list is can of peaches then we’ll get the cereals.” Niall instructed me after he took a look at our grocery list.
“Why do we need canned peaches?” I asked, incredulously. I maneuvred the shopping to avoid crashing into the huge stack of paper towels as Niall said, “Because I’m going to make peach cobbler.”
“Wouldn’t fresh peaches be better?” Niall shook his head and told me that he didn’t was the trouble of paring and slicing the peaches. We turned around the corner to get to the aisle with the canned peaches. I immediately stopped when I saw Taylor inspecting a can of mixed fruit. There she was, Bree. She was guarding the shopping cart with her elbows resting on the handle.
“Look, its Bree.” Niall whispered to me.
“Thank you, Captain Obvious.” I said sarcastically. I pushed the cart closer to Bree and Taylor.
“Hi girls.” I greeted them. Taylor looked up from her mixed fruit can and looked at me. She smiled and at Niall and said, “Hi Niall.” She glared at me before saying, “Liam.” She turned back to Niall and asked, “What are you guys doing here?”
“Oh you know, hunting for elephants.” Niall said. Taylor rolled her eyes in response. I looked at Bree and saw she hasn’t looked at us yet.
“Hi Bree.” I said with a wave of my hand. She looked up from her phone and looked at Taylor then gave me a glare before she turned the shopping cart around mumbling, “I’m going to the frozen food section, Tay.”
I watched her walk down the aisle, turn and disappear from my sight. Taylor shook her head and said, “Look, Liam I know you didn’t mean to hurt her but she’s really upset.”
“I’ve noticed.” I mumbled.
Niall and I headed home after we got a box of Lucky Charms. That was the first time I saw her after she marched out the office and it was awful. I’m not going to let that stop me from getting her to forgive me. The second time I saw her was when the guys and I were at the office, practicing our new song.
“Bree!” I called when I saw her walking down the hallway on my way out of the bathroom. She instantly quickened her pace when she heard my voice. I easily caught up to her and stopped her from entering the elevator.
“You know you can’t out run me.” I said, with a small smirk on my face. She glanced at me then at her glass of water. Before I knew it, I was drenched in ice cold water.
“Ok, maybe I deserved that.” I said as I wiped the water out of my eyes.
“You deserve much more.” She glared and walked around me to get to the elevator.
The doors closed before I got to her. I walked back to the recording studio in my wet shirt. The guys asked me what happened and all I said was, “Bree happened.” They all gave me sympathetic looks before we were told to start singing again.
