Chapter 24

Brielle’s POV

“Whatever makes you feel bad, leave it. Whatever makes you smile, keep it.”

That was a quote I read on tumblr today. I could totally relate to it since it’s the exact thing I’m going through. Well, the exact opposite to be precise.

I was leaving the place the makes me smile and keeping the person who makes me feel bad.

If it isn’t obvious, Liam’s the person who makes me feel bad. Just when I got my hopes up, he just goes and shoots arrows on them. Then I watch them fall helplessly to the ground.

I can’t seem to get rid of him these days. It was getting harder and harder to ignore him. First he has the nerve to talk to me at the grocery then at the office. I finally lost it and lashed out on him when he intruded my and Taylor’s brunch at our favorite café.

Seeing him all the time, makes my feelings for him creep back up to the surface. It’s taking everything in me not to crack. I just keep thinking about all the things he’s done to me. I know it’s silly of me to hold a grudge but I just can’t forgive him now. Not with everything that’s going on.

The bakery’s final day arrived a little too quickly for my liking. I brought a few more boxes with me just in case we ran out.

“Hey, Carter.” Gloomily, I greeted her as I entered the shop since she was the only one there.

“Thank God, you finally came!” Carter exclaimed when she caught sight of me.

“Why?” I asked but the answer was right in front of my face. There were all kinds of letters and packages scattered around the floor. “What’s with the packages?”

“The – “

“Woah! What’s with the packages?” Danny asked immediately when he opened the door carrying four cups of coffee with him along with a baffled Charlie.

“That’s what I was asking.” I said, eyeing all the packages.

Carter smiled, the first I’ve seen since I told them the bad news, and told us, “Apparently, a lot of people are going to miss this place.”

We moved a few letters away and sat down on the wooden floor in a circle. Carter passed out a pile of letters to each of us and told us to open them.

“Aren’t we supposed to finish packing things into boxes?” Danny asked, gesturing around him.

“We’ll do that later.” Carter let him now and urged him to be the first one to open the letter.

Charlie cleared his throat and prepared to read. “Dear Bree and co-workers, this is a tragedy. We love the bakery! It’s such a shame to see it close. Lara and Tina send their thanks for making their day whenever they come in the store. They also told me to tell you that they will surely miss this place. We will all miss it. We wish all of you guys the best!” Charlie read. “Regards, Emily Turner.”

“Mrs. Turner and her daughters were our best customers.” Carter sighed. “Now we’ll never get to see them again.”

“Look,” Charlie handed me a piece of paper. “There’s a drawing.”
