“Can’t sleep either,” I heard Max say.“Yeah,” she got up and came and sat next to me. The hosts were in their room while we slept in the living room. I was on the couch as the other couples slept on a mattress each. "I always found it hard to sleep in a new environment," I told her.
“Me too," she went silent and I didn't know what to say, "Thanks Liz,” she said a short while later.
“What have I done?”
“I’ll tell you soon enough. Just know I’m grateful and I owe you big time so if you ever need a favour from me, don’t hesitate to let me know,”
“I’ll keep that in mind,”
We talked about random things until the sun came up then we all got ready to leave. Sonia insisted that she wanted Pat to drop her off.
“Okay, I guess we can do that first before I drop Liz and the kids off,”
“No, we can drop them off first then we can go. Better yet Max can do it. They come across as old buddies so it wouldn’t be asking for too much,”
“But I brought them here,” Pat said. Sonia was getting upset.
“It’s okay bro, I don’t mind doing it. Is that okay babe?” Max asked Halima and she said she didn’t have a problem with it.
“Mom, isn’t Pat taking us home?” Joey asked when saw whose car we were getting into.
“No, baby girl,” Pat and Max walked over to where we were and Joey hugged her.
“Why aren’t you coming with us?”
“I’m taking my friend home first,”
“But mommy’s your friend too,”
“That’s why I asked Max to take the three of you home first because she lives very far but I’ll pass by for dinner, is that okay?” Joey nodded as she smiled. “I miss having pizza, what about you?”
“I do,”
“Me too,” Tariq almost shouted.
“Okay then. I’ll come with pizza so don’t let mommy cook anything today, okay?” She was getting better at this parenting than I was or maybe she and Joey just connected like she did with Chance.
She called around five and told us to order in as she would be late. She finally made it around nine but the kids were already asleep.
“Just go home and get some rest. I’m sure you need it after all that make up sex,” I told her while at the gate.
“Ba- I mean Liz…”
“Just go home,”
“I’ll be back early be ready,”
“Whatever,” I said and closed the gate and only went inside after I heard her drive off.
I got a message from her telling me that she had gotten home safely and that she was sorry for not keeping her word. After that, I slept soundly. She was there early the next morning. The kids were happy to see her.
“Aren’t you upset with me?” Pat asked as they hugged her.
“No,”
“But I was late,”
“But you still came,”
“I thought you were asleep,”
“Mommy told us,”
“Go finish up,” I told them.
“Why aren’t you dressed?” she asked me.
“Because I’m not going anywhere with you,”
