Survivor - Coriolanus Snow [1]

Years before the story of the Hunger Games, there were the Dark Days where war and rebellion were running rampant and no one was a stranger to hunger and various other things.

The Snows were no exception as they lost most of their wealth during the Dark Days. Crassus Snow was no less than a monster but his son was not a monster just yet. Coriolanus Snow was just a young boy trying to hide the fact that he was poor while attending school in the capital.

This is important because this year was the tenth Hunger Games. A horrific competition where the Capital forced a girl and a boy from each of the twelve districts so twenty-four people in total to fight to the death inside an arena where only one would survive.

The games were a hit among the capital folks and referred to as punishment for the war and the rebellion by the districts. Many like Coriolanus Snow and Sejanus Plinth disagreed but would never say it out loud to anyone but each other.

And so every year it was, the Capital watched as twenty-four kids some as young as twelve killed each other for a chance to live as the Capital people watched like people would watch a TV show or a movie.

Meanwhile, on the other end, the Covey were a group of travelers who had gotten trapped in district twelve during the war. They were a group of performers who were never accepted by District Twelve as one of their own so they stuck to themselves in their own section of the district.

Two of those people were the sisters Soteria Baird and Lucy Gray Baird. Lucy Gray Baird was a girl who was brilliant at singing and was the kindest songbird anyone could ever meet. Everyone in the Covey loved her but none other than her older sister Soteria Baird.

Soteria Baird was the kind of girl who trusted easily but turned into your worst enemy when her trust was broken. She was also the kind of girl who was graceful when it came to anything which was always a good thing. She was extremely protective of her younger sister and was smart as a whip was sharp. Her sister always fondly compared her to a raven with her smarts and her cunning nature.

Currently, Soteria was watching her sixteen-year-old sister singing and dancing. Soteria had never been a fan of singing or dancing. Sure she could do it but she usually allowed her sister to have that. She was just trying to shake her mind from the fact that today was reaping day. The day that everyone and their mother dreaded because it would force two people from their district to fight to the death with twenty-two other people. She shook her head from the thought and continued to watch her sister knowing that if her sister got picked then she would volunteer.

The same day, Coriolanus Snow paced around his penthouse waiting for his cousin to come back with his reaping day shirt. The teen was trying to hide the fact that he was poor by having his cousin help him.

He shuddered as he waited for his cousin knowing that today was reaping day. He always tried to hide the fact that he hated the Hunger Games mainly because of the death and all of the violence. He had seen a lot of violence during the Dark Days and hated seeing it paraded around every year.

The young teen also couldn't help but to think of how the people in the Capital celebrated and treated it like it was an action movie. He shook his head as he was brought out of his thoughts by Tigris coming back. He gasped as she had brought back the dress shirt with buttons made of tesserae which were small, mosaic cubes of ebony and gold.

Coriolanus looked at the shirt in shock, stunned at how absolutely amazing it was. He looked at his cousin "Tigris, it's stunning."

Tigris smiled "thank you Coryo." The two cousins placed their foreheads together as a way to express their love for each other before Coriolanus headed out of the penthouse and to meet his friends at the academy for the Reaping.

If only he was aware of how much this Reaping was going to change both him and Panem as a whole but also how much this Reaping was going to create a legend.

So, the first actual chapter. Let me know what you think. Soteria doesn't really sing like Lucy Gray so I'm thinking of changing how she puts on a show for the reaping. Is there anything you would be interested in seeing me change it to?
