Alone and Hiding

I am running as I am weeping. I am terrified, deeply terrified. I wipe the tears on my face and glance at my back if the dead body is still going after me. I weep harder as I see him getting closer I don't know if I should shoot it or keep running harder. I'm so lost and confused. I don't know where to start.

It's been 2 days since Calum and I have been separated while we are looking for Luke and Ashton. I am just so afraid to think that I'm all alone now. No Ashton or Calum to pressure me to shoot and kill a zombie. And yes, its been 4 years since the world broke down and total chaos descended. As crazy it may sound we are now living in a world where zombies dominate human population. I'm so lucky to be able to live as a human during those 4 years and still breathing. And if I want to live longer even if I'm alone now, I've got to toughen up and lift my gun that is hanging limply at my side.

I momentarily stopped and turned to look at the zombie, I lifted my gun, I closed my eyes before pulling the trigger stopping the zombie to move towards me, he's just now lying lifeless on the floor as I stare at him thinking how horrible it is to shoot a human being and I again reminded myself what Ashton always tell me that he's not human anymore, none of them are human anymore.

"He's a zombie, Michael. A living dead who will eat your flesh if you didn't shoot him." I talked to myself and felt slightly better because I know what I said is true. I calmed myself before I take off again. I sigh with relief when I saw a grocery store few meters away from me. I look around the area to check if there is any trace of moving dead bodies when I see nothing suspicious I continue running to the grocery store. When I arrived at the door, I stopped and made a noise by hitting the door with my gun, as expected two zombies came out and are ready to attack me so I gathered my strength to shoot them before they come closer. I sigh when I opened my eyes.

Then, I entered the store and checked if there is anything that I could eat. Any kind of food that hadn't expired yet since there is no production of goods going on for 4 years now. I scan the place and found something decent to eat so I grab it and I immediately walk to the corner and eat there. I just realized that I'm already so hungry because I haven't eaten since Calum and I got separated. So I ate everything I can eat until it gets dark. After a while, I started to get sleepy, I think I'm in a slightly safe place so I allowed myself to get some nap.

I woke up when I heard a noise from the outside. I feel rested and relaxed maybe because I had gotten a lot of sleep. It's pretty much noon now. Then I grew tense when I heard muffled voices talking from the outside. I immediately go on an alert mode. This is bad. I don't want trouble right now. Humans aren't so kind nowadays.

My last encounter with humans aren't so pretty, all they care about is their own survival. Last time I met any human they've taken all our supplies and weapons plus they made us undress so that they could also take our clothes. Yeah, it's not pretty, I know. Ashton was so furious that day because we didn't have choice but to give in, we could have had a shot if we weren't caught by surprise.

I froze as I hear footsteps getting closer. I cursed in my mind realizing that there is no way the person couldn't see me because I was not hiding myself enough. I closed my eyes when I saw his shadow, its so close now. I know he'll see me, there is no way he will not.

I heard him gasp, I still didn't open my eyes but I knew he already saw me.

"Are you human?!" he practically shouted so I looked up and see a boy which is about 18 years old or older. "Shit, you're human!" He looked surprised. "Are you okay? Are you alone?"

I nod to answer his questions because I don't feel like talking. I don't know why but I felt relieved now. Maybe because the boy looks like he wouldn't hurt me and I don't want him to hurt me because I won't fight back even if I can, I don't wanna hurt someone especially now that there are only few of us left. At this point, I think there are no fighting involved because for some reason the boy looks happy to see me but I remained seated on the ground, not moving.

"Vera! Come on over!" he shouts again. Then he kneels and smiles at me. "You're alone, right?" I nod. "Don't worry, I'll convince Vera to make you tag along with us."

"What's your problem--" the girl stopped talking when she sees me. She immediately held her gun tight and lift it pointing them to me.

"Whoa! Can you relax? He's harmless and he's alone. Geez." The boy told her.

"Fine." then, put the gone down. She is definitely much scary looking than the boy, she doesn't look like she wants to see me.

"He should come with us." the boy told her.

"No, he'll be staying here and were leaving, NOW." she said, in may I add so authoritative voice that I think would make anyone obey but the boy seemed unfazed by her because he continues to smile at me.

"He's coming or we'll never leave this store." He says while looking at me, seemingly fascinated. He looks like he hadn't seen a human for a while.

The girl sighed, giving up. "Fine but you are responsible for him. Now, get your ass up and find us something to eat."

"Thanks, sis!" So there siblings, that explains why they resemble each other a bit. "Can you talk?"

"Yeah." my voice is hoarse when I speak.

"Do you have any friends?"

"I do. We got separated 2 days ago, I didn't know where are they now."

"WE SHOULD GO LOOK FOR THEM!" He shouted, he looks so excited with what he thought of.

"Can we?" I asked

"They are probably dead now, Enzo, what the hell." The girl said, seemingly bored about his brother's idea.

"No, if they've lived 4 years in this world, they could survived for 2 fucking days, Vera. We will find them."

"I object."

"PLEASE!" The boy named "Enzo" turned to her sister kneeling. "I would really appreciate it, sis! This is our chance to make our team stronger, right? Give this a chance."

The girl or should I say lady (she looks older than the boy, much older, she must be at her late 20's) closed her eyes tightly and breathe heavily before she angrily said. "Fine."

"YES! THANK YOU SO MUCH VERA!"

"Thank you." I muttered, she looked at me and glared.

"Get up now. We need to keep moving if you want us to find them." She said and walked out off the store.

"We'll find them." Enzo says while smiling so I smiled back and feel happier because I have bigger chance of finding my best friends now.
