The next thing he knew, Lan Wangji became hip to hip with Wei Wuxian.

No.

More like, Wei Wuxian openly followed him everywhere without a shred of shame – while taking pictures with his phone.

“Would you stop that?” Lan Wangji tried to control his emotion when Wei Wuxian snapped his phone right in front of his nose while he was trying to meditate.

Lately, he increased his meditation time because of the perverse thoughts that he had every time Wei Wuxian came near him. But ever since he signed the contract that stated that he was entitled to twenty five percent worth of the nett sales of the book – which was way too much only to become the model and the inspiration – he tried to avoid Wei Wuxian altogether, which was not helping with the person himself hovering near him.

Lan Wangji tried to politely tell Wei Wuxian to piss off, but the latter only smiled and said that he needed to know everything about him, to make his character alive and breathing. And if the reader could vividly imagine Hanguangjun – the character’s name – in their brain, wouldn’t the sales be skyrocketing and it would fill Lan Wangji’s pocket too?

Lan Wangji shuddered to think that half the women – and men – in the world would do something immoral with him as the object of their… desire, but he knew that Wei Wuxian was right. Let them all do immoral stuff as long as he was the one who got the money to keep his family together.

“I need to know everything about you, Hanguangjun, so that I can write you realistically in my book.” Wei Wuxian gave Lan Wangji his most dazzling smile and the latter was taken aback for a second before he found his composure.

“So, does that mean you also followed your previous muse around and sexually harassed him to make your book, and then killed him when you got bored with him?”

Lan Wangji did not mean to sound that rude, but he was tired, and he hated how Wei Wuxian breached into his safe zone all the time, making him flustered and confused.

Wei Wuxian paused his movement and suddenly chuckled.

“Why, Lan Wangji, are you jealous?” He suddenly moved even closer and hooked his free arm to Lan Wangji’s. “Come on, let’s take selfies together for our collaboration. Say cheese!” Then he snapped pictures of them and giggled at the frowny face Lan Wangji made then showed him the pictures.

“You are so handsome, Hanguangjun. And don’t worry, I made Ling Yun purely out of my imagination, no model for him.” Wei Wuxian whispered into Lan Wangji’s ear and it made him blush. “This is the first time I use a live model for my protagonist and I want everything to be accurate, and as perfect as you.”

Lan Wangji felt the sting of Wei Wuxian’s words, and pushed him away.

“I’m not perfect at all.” He sounded bitter even to himself and he hated himself for it. “Maybe you should reconsider your decision to make me your protagonist. Because if I have even an ounce of your so-called hero’s trait, I should be able to provide a better life for everyone.”

“Hmm… you sound like you have a hero syndrome.” Wei Wuxian observed Lan Wangji closer. “I mean, I noticed it when you looked like you swallowed poison when I offered to buy this monstrosity from you.  But I guess everyone has their bad days, so I think it’s normal.” He shrugged and continued. “And from what I see, you are a great father figure to the kids, and a great leader figure to everyone else. So I don’t understand why you always try to be more and take care of everyone. You’re like mother hen, you know.”

“I’m not a mother hen and I definitely don’t have a hero’s syndrome.” Lan Wangji clenched his teeth and he felt so offended by Wei Wuxian’s statement. But deep down inside he wondered if Wei Wuxian’s words had a shred of truth in it, because he always thought that he was not adequate, he was not good enough for everyone to even call him their respected leader.

And he was not even going to start with the kids.

They seemed to be afraid of him rather than respected him – or even became playful like they did with Wei Wuxian.

What good was he for actually, if not for his capability to help everyone to be happy even if he was not?

And right there and then he realized that he was not happy. He was never happy ever since his brother died and left him with his twin sons. And he did not know when he would be happy again.

“Well, it’s only from my point of view, you don’t need to be mad since everyone is entitled to their opinion, you know.” Wei Wuxian patted Lan Wangji’s back fondly while trying to defuse the situation before it escalated. “But think about it. Sometimes, you have to really open your eyes to see the real situation, and maybe, you will find out that not everyone needs to be saved.”
