It was late when they were back to the penthouse after a whole day of shopping and eating out.
The kids were very happy with tons of new toys, clothes, shoes and they also stuffed themselves with delicious food and sweet desserts until they passed out from exhaustion.
Lan Wangji put the twins down on the bed and put the warm and thick blanket on top of them before he went out to enter his own room, but then he heard the piano in the living room and decided to take a peek – and found the devil himself was playing the piano.
He also noticed the opened bottle of whiskey and a half-filled glass on top of the piano, and wondered if the man was drunk.
“Hey, Lan Zhan, come, sit with me. The others went out to watch a movie and I kinda felt lonely.” Wei Wuxian chuckled and took a sip of the amber colored liquid in his glass before he continued to play. “Drinks? Help yourself.”
“You play piano?” Lan Wangji took a glass and poured himself the same amber colored liquid before he walked to the piano.
“A bit. Not as good as how you played the guqin obviously.” Wei Wuxian laughed and continued to play the intro of Snowman, then he started to sing – obviously tipsy.
Don't cry, snowman, not in front of me
Who'll catch your tears if you can't catch me, darling?
If you can't catch me, darling
Don't cry, snowman, don't leave me this way
A puddle of water can't hold me close, baby
Can't hold me close, babyI want you to know that I'm never leaving
'Cause I'm Mrs. Snow. 'Til death we'll be freezing
Yeah, you are my home, my home for all seasons
So, come on, let's goLet's go below zero
And hide from the sun
I'll love you forever
Where we'll have some fun
Yes, let's hit the North Pole
And live happily
Please, don't cry no tears now
It's Christmas, babyMy snowman and me, yeah
My snowman and me
BabyDon't cry, snowman, don't you fear the sun
Who'll carry me without legs to run, honey?
Without legs to run, honey
Don't cry, snowman, don't you shed a tear
Who'll hear my secrets if you don't have ears, baby?
If you don't have ears, babyI want you to know that I'm never leaving
'Cause I'm Mrs. Snow. 'Til death we'll be freezing
Yeah, you are my home, my home for all seasons
So, come on, let's goLet's go below zero
And hide from the sun
I'll love you forever
Where we'll have some fun
Yes, let's hit the North Pole
And live happily
Please, don't cry no tears now
It's Christmas, babyMy snowman and me, yeah
My snowman and me
BabyLan Wangji was surprised by the clear sound of Wei Wuxian’s voice, and he couldn’t help but feel the warmth seeping into his cold heart – especially when the other man looked at him with his eyes full of warmth and fondness.
But he also noticed that the lyrics to the song hit too close to home, and he wondered if Wei Wuxian did it on purpose.
He did feel something stirring in his stomach and he blamed it on alcohol in empty stomach. He was too busy taking care of the kids – who were on sugar high – that he forgot to eat.
He was thinking of making a sandwich when Wei Wuxian suddenly stopped playing.
“Why don’t you open the biggest box there under the tree and see if it’s to your liking?” Wei Wuxian then continued to play around with other Christmas music and humming lowly while obviously waiting for Lan Wangji to open the gift that he especially found for him ever since he found out that he was really gifted in music.
Lan Wangji never celebrated Christmas before – not because of religious reasons, but he was just too busy and now he realized that he was missing a lot by not putting his nephews first.
At first he hesitated, because Christmas was still a few days later, but Wei Wuxian’s smile – and the booze – gave him the push that he needed. So he walked toward the biggest and longest box that was put under the tree – with a pretty white wrapping with glittery snowflakes and a huge blue bow – and started to open it carefully, so as to not ruin the wrapping.
“Whaaattt?” Wei Wuxian stopped playing and suddenly he was beside Lan Wangji. “Why would you do that? You have to rip it open and not carefully like that! It will make a difference! Try it! Rip it all open at once!” Wei Wuxian was literally jumping up and down like an excited kid, and Lan Wangji couldn’t help but smile at his childish behavior.
“Oohh, did you just smile?” Wei Wuxian teased Lan Wangji – who composed himself once again and cleared his throat. “You did! You have to smile more often, Lan Zhan, you look very handsome when you do.”
Lan Wangji couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he took a deep breath and ripped the pretty wrapping at once.
Underneath the wrapping, he found a very beautiful and familiar wooden box with a small carving of his name in calligraphy, and he couldn’t help but look at Wei Wuxian with such an astonished expression on his face.
“You…” Lan Wangji choked on his own words. He just couldn’t believe his eyes. “This…”
“Yes, I know. It’s friggin’ hard to track down your treasure, but no worries about it and open your other gift please.” Wei Wuxian smiled mischievously as he put the blue bow on his chest and posed flirtily.
Lan Wangji was very emotional because the guqin was the heirloom that was given to him by his grandfather – that he had to sell because he needed money.
Of course he regretted the decision every day, but Lan Wangji knew that it was just an object, and he had to face the harsh truth sooner or later. And the kids were more important to him than any object no matter how expensive or how valuable.
Fortunately the person he sold the guqin to was an avid collector and he promised to take care of the guqin.
“How?”
There was a drop of tears on Lan Wangji’s long lashes, and Wei Wuxian never saw anything more beautiful than the man who sat in front of him right now.
“Well, I know someone who knows someone and…” Wei Wuxian suddenly became sheepish as he explained, because he didn’t want to be accused of being a stalker. But his worries were for naught since Lan Wangji suddenly approached him and took off the blue bow and then pulled him closer to him.
“You can explain later since I would like to open my second gift now. Should we do this here or somewhere more… private?”
Lan Wangji’s lips were so close to Wei Wuxian’s that the latter had a sudden heart palpitation. But he swallowed his saliva nervously and then pulled Lan Wangji up.
“My room. Now.”
