Lan Wangji was still half asleep when he was dragged out of his room by the kids and thrown into the big van before they left for the airport.
He could not sleep last night because he was browsing for a place to live with the kids and their aunt in the city, and also researching for the best school for them too – and he did not realize until it was already the break of dawn that he finally felt sleepy.
He had just slept for a couple hours when he realized that he was in a car, and he blinked in confusion when he saw the helicopter in the empty field outside the village.
“Where are we going?” He asked Wei Wuxian who was sitting beside him with the two kids on his lap.
“We’re going to the city for the weekend for a Christmas shopping spree – in style.” Wei Wuxian grinned at Lan Wangji. “Don’t worry about a thing because I’ve prepared the best experience that you’ve ever had, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Wangji was taken aback by the bright smile from Wei Wuxian and he quickly turned his head to the other side. It was like watching a bright sun without any protection, and the warmth started to seep inside his dark and cold heart and he didn’t know what to do about it.
“We’re going shopping!” Jingyi jumped on Wei Wuxian’s thigh while Yuanyuan suddenly crawled into Lan Wangji’s lap and hugged him.
“Are you still sleepy, uncle? I am, but Gege said we can all sleep in the hotel later.” He nuzzled into Lan Wangji’s collar fur and settled down to hear his heartbeat – a habit he developed ever since he was still a tiny baby and looked for the warmth and comfort of a mom – and Lan Wangji squeezed the tiny kid tight.
He loved them so much.
He loved them so much that his heart could burst from the love he had inside, and he swore that he would take care of them even if it meant that he had to sell his soul to do it.
“Go to sleep Yuanyuan, it’s okay, uncle will take care of you.” Lan Wangji kissed the toddler’s hair and inhaled the baby smell from it. It was so calming and he could feel that he was relaxed as soon as Yuanyuan fell asleep safely in his arms.
They arrived at the airport and Shen Qingqiu ushered them into a G7 private jet that was waiting for them there and before Lan Wangji and the others could blink, they’ve been served with breakfast consisted of fresh fruits, milk, fruit juice, croissants and cold cuts alongside tea and coffee.
Wei Wuxian took a cup of coffee and doused it with milk and sugar until it was murky and took a piece of the croissants, halved it, then put a lot of cold cuts inside. He grumbled when Shen Qingqiu put some vegetables on top of the meat, but he ate it all anyway.
While he was munching the croissant, the kids looked at him with awe and started to copy him – helped by Lan Wangji and Luo Binghe – while the aunt, Yaoyao, poured the warm milk into two glasses for the kids and put some fruits in front of them.
“Good kids, eat a lot so you can grow up as tall and as handsome as your uncle and gege here.” Wei Wuxian flexed his muscles and the kids giggled. “And don’t forget to eat your vegetables too!” He put a piece of cucumber on their plates and they nodded as they ate the cucumber obediently.
Everyone was eating and chatting amiably up until the plane descended and the sign to fasten the seatbelt was turned on.
It didn’t take long at all for the plane to land smoothly and then they went inside the limo that was waiting for them on the tarmac and within fifteen minutes they were on their way to the hotel before the big shopping spree.
“Look!” Jingyi pointed at the huge Christmas tree and the 3d ads everywhere. They were right smack in the middle of the busy city, and there were more people there than usual since it was close to Christmas and most of them were looking for the last minute gifts.
“Santa Claus!” Yuanyuan also pointed at the giant Santa outside of the biggest toy store they had ever seen.
“You want to go there kids?” Wei Wuxian was excited to see the kids’ expression. “Can we stop by the store first?” He asked the driver who nodded and pulled over to the store.
The kids were so excited but before they left the limo, Wei Wuxian told them to hold onto either their uncle or their aunt or one of the adults, and never to go around by themselves since the store was full with kids and their parents.
“And you can choose anything you like!” He winked at the boys. “And you too, Lan Zhan. Pick anything you want.” Wei Wuxians smiled at him. “Everyone, pick whatever you like, it’s on me!”
Coincidentally, the toy store was located next to the biggest shopping mall in the city, and Wei Wuxian already made a list of where they should go afterwards.
“Here, take this.” Wei Wuxian gave Lan Wangji a black card. “Use it for whatever, it has no limit. And before you start to complain, I will deduct the expense from your pay, so you don’t have to worry about anything.” Wei Wuxian shushed Lan Wangji when he tried to protest. “You can even buy a house with the card if you like.” Wei Wuxian smirked as if he could read Lan Wangji’s mind as he took the kids’ hands and disappeared toward the boys’ section of the store.
Lan Wangji only nodded, his mind was still swirling from the progress of things, and he decided to focus on the boys as of now. He could think about other things later when everything had quieted down.
He then followed Wei Wuxian and the boys toward the madness of the holiday’s crowd.
