It had been a week since I had woken up from the coma. Everybody had been worried that I was too hurt to train for a few months, but my wounds had healed a lot faster with the help of Shoko. She had used her reversed curse technique to heal me, if it hadn't been for her, I would have been gone.
I had noticed that something had changed in Satoru after the incident. He had been around me more than normal, even though he had been with me, he had been distant. He wasn't really here.
When I was still bedridden the following days after I had woken up, I asked Suguru about this. The only way I got to talk to him alone was because Satoru was on a mission. He had told me that Satoru had felt guilty. Guilty for what? I had asked him, but he just shrugged his shoulders.
This had not left my mind; I had planned to go directly to the source and ask him why he had felt so guilty that he couldn't leave my side until I woke up. The only problem with my plan was that he somehow managed to avoid me. Why I didn't know.
I knew he was around me a lot now as well, I could feel his presence. I'm sure that every jujutsu sorcerer can feel when he is around because of his very big amount of curse energy. So even if he wanted to avoid me, he was almost always around me.
I was on my way to the gymnasium to train, it was too warm to train outside, this might have been the warmest September I had ever lived through. when I entered the gymnasium a push of cold air hit my exposed skin. I was only wearing a white T-shirt and some blue shorts with a pair of black Nike shoes.
Goosebumps rose on both my arms and legs; my body will soon enough be warm again. Yaga had told me that me and Satoru were going to train together today. To be honest, I wasn't so sure that he would show up. I just don't understand what I have done to make him avoid me this extremely, he won't even look at me when I talk to him.
As I expected, he was not here yet, I could not even feel him. I guess I should just start to warm up, maybe he will be here when I'm done. I started to jog rounds. I stopped after 15 min feeling warm enough in my legs.
"Sorry for being late, something came up" I heard a voice call out from the door. Satoru came walking in almost in a hurry. I was happy to see him, even though I could feel a little anxiety in my stomach, scared that he would ignore me again. "I'm just happy that you came," I said giving him a warm smile.
Satoru pov
I had planned to skip our training session, not because I didn't want to train with her. It was more that I couldn't look at her without seeing her lifeless body. Seeing one of your closest friends almost die in front of you without being able to help them is a feeling I wouldn't wish on my enemies. It seemed that she had warmed up enough for us to start our session.
After our session, she asked if I would like to go out for lunch with her and Utahime. I hadn't seen much of Utahime since she graduated, I'm not even sure what she is doing now. Last year right before summer break Shoko had told me that Utahime never liked me. When I asked her why that was, she just told me that Utahime liked calmer men. But I agreed to eat lunch with them, the main reason was that both Shoko and Suguru had taken notice of my weird behavior towards Sora.
We went to a small café in Tokyo. It wasn't many people here even though it was lunchtime. We took a table close to the door so that Utahime could spot us faster when she came. It didn't take long after we had seated ourselves when Utahime came through the door.
She was wearing a black jumpsuit with a white T-shirt under it. Her short bangs had grown out a lot, and the front pieces of her hair had been put back into a bow. Sora waved at her smiling, had they always been this close at school? I knew that Shoko and Utahime were friends, but I had not seen Sora and Utahime much together.
She took a place next to Sora on the opposite side of me. "hi" Utahime said as she hugged Sora. "Utahime it's been so long," Sora said hugging her tightly back. "I never knew that you were so close," I said feeling almost like a third wheel. They pulled away from the hug.
"Really? You didn't know? Well, Shoko, Utahime, and I were often hanging out. Sometimes Mei Mei used to join us as well" Sora said lost in her thoughts about the past years. "So Utahime what are you up to now, now that you're done with school?" I said with a smile, hoping she wouldn't dislike me like she did last year.
"Well right now I'm just finishing learning about what I need to know to become a teacher," she said not looking at me. "Oh really? Which school? Tokyo or Kyoto?" I was actually interested in this. "I'm planning to become a teacher in Kyoto".
We had ordered and gotten our food. Sora was eating a chicken salad with an iced tea, Utahime had ordered a coffee and a sandwich. I had just taken a spoonful of a delicious cheesecake. Our conversation was a pleasant one, we talked a little about everything.
"Do you feel any after-effects of the incident?" Utahime asked Sora looking at her with worried eyes. "No, not really. I do get a few headaches, but I have always had a problem with those." Sora laughed like it was the funniest thing she had ever said. "Oh? You had always had headaches? Why?" I asked her looking directly into her eyes.
Sora wasn't so very good at opening up about her past. I knew almost nothing, even Shoko had very limited information. "Umm well yes. When I was younger, I was a lot at the doctor for this" she said looking away from my eyes that was covered with a pair of sunglasses, and down on her lap. It was obvious that talking about her past made her uncomfortable.
I looked over at Utahime to see her reaction, but she looked at me pissed. She didn't like that I was making Sora uncomfortable. "let's finish our lunch, I soon have to get back to my studies" Utahime said as she lifted her Sandwich to her mouth taking a too big bite out of it. Had I made her too uncomfortable? It was clear that she wanted to get done with me as fast as possible.
After lunch, me and Sora went back to the school. Throughout the whole way home she hadn't said a thing, which was not like Sora at all. If I had known that a simple question like this would make her close up, then I would have kept quiet.
I didn't have any more classes after this, so I had planned to just go straight back to my dorm room. I would have gone to see Megumi and Tsumiki, but I'm pretty sure that Megumi doesn't want to see me two days in a row. He looked far too similar to his father. Just thinking about his father made me shiver.
"Do you have any more classes today?" I asked Sora looking at her through my side-eye. She looked up at me, almost surprised that I said something. "No, I'm planning to go back to my dorm room and pack a few stuff before I head over to Shoko's room. I'm sleeping over at hers tonight" she said looking beautiful as ever in this sunlight.
I looked at her and smiled with a teasing grin "Can me and Suguru also come along??? I'm sure you have room for two more" She looked at me with a glint in her eyes before she looked down at her feet, smiling a little to herself.
"I would have invited you both if it weren't for the fact that it was a girls' night. But I will make sure to invite you both next time" She seemed to be back to normal. I smiled; she was an interesting girl.
We said our goodbyes as we went our separate ways.
