Dubby stands stunned in silence. I walk right past him, over to the car. As I look up, I see Jules Park staring back at me. Silence. Still silence. He sorta smiles at me and I sorta smile back. I get into the car, followed by Dubby and Bunny. But I can't shake the image of his face from my mind. I never gave him his jacket back, he never came to ask for it either.

"Did I miss something?" Bunny asks from the backseat

"Did I miss something?" Bunny asks from the backseat.

"That would be an understatement." Dubby fills her in.

"We should be attached at the hip, Francis, then I could always help you. But seriously, Carter? Nah."

"Nah, in what way?" I look back at her.

Dubby drives into the drive thru of a fast food restaurant.

"Nah, nope, no, nada, not a chance," she replies in a singsong tone.

"What do you want?" Dubby interrupts us.

"Nuggets," I say.

"Snap. But Francis, it's not Carter."

"How do you know?"

Dubby orders the food.

"Because he's not in love with you."

"You can't know that."

"I'm smart, Francis, trust my gut if you can't trust your own."

I can trust my own... I think. "Dubby, what do you think?"

We park up and start eating. But I'm too busy thinking to have an appetite, but I devour it anyway.

"I've no comment," he replies through a full mouth.

"Why not?" Silence

"Why not?" Silence. Oh my gosh, this is so frustrating. I have one that says too much and another that says nothing at all. And the sad part is that I know both are thinking the same thing anyway, and the truth lies in the middle.

"I don't want to burst your bubble, but you can't believe everyone who says they love you and shit," Bunny replies, stuffing her face.

I turn in the chair and look back at her. "I never said he was in love with me. He never said he was in love with me. Look, I don't know what's happening. But I'm not some stupid, naive person. I just have to chat to him and find out."
