"So, do you think you could teach me to play basketball?" Bunny asks.
"Bunny, Mom said she needs you downstairs to help make that trifle." I chime in. Trifle is their new hobby together.
"It's so good, Jules, you should try some."
"Yeah, I'd love to."
"He can later, Bunny, but you have to make it first!" I shoo her out of my room. She leaves.
And I'm left with Jules, alone. Until I hear a purring sound. What is that? Jules hears it too and looks around. He finds the sound coming from under my bed. I wish I hoovered under my bed. He pulls out Hello Kitty. Oh my gosh. He's going to think we're weird.
"Hey, this cat is dressed up like Hello Kitty, I love it."
Or that we are very cool. I was going to say that it is Bunny's cat, but instead I say, "Oh yeah, my cat, Hello Kitty."
He strokes her. "It's so cute. How'd you come up with this?"
"Just love Hello Kitty."
"Me too," he replies. Wow, maybe he's a bit weird too. "My sister did, you see."
Bunny comes back into the door frame...again. Play it cool. "Come here, Hello Kitty," she calls. The cat jumps out of Jules's arms and into hers.
"Bunny, what about the trifle?" I ask.
"I'm working on it." She never picks up what I'm putting down. Or more so, she doesn't care.
"Bunny, what a cool name," Jules says.
"Thank you, I agree."
I go to say her name. I want impact. But then I realize this will cause the wrong kind of impact. "Is everything okay?" is all I say instead. Hint hint... leave leave.
"Dubby's here," she replies. Of course he is.
Dubby comes into my room too and it's a real party. No one knows what to say. Dubby is shocked to see Jules in my room. I'm shocked to see him in my room. Both of them, actually all of them.
