December 2017..."Heeseung we're here!"
Jake shouted as he pushed open the door, Chae ah peeking through under his arm like a little cat.
The other side revealed Heeseung trying to put up some last minute decorations on the Christmas tree.
"Come in!"
Walking towards the tree, Jake put the nicely wrapped gifts under.
"Who does last minute decorations."
Chae ah scoffed before heading to the dining table to munch on some snacks.
Heeseung and Jake joined her as well, gathering around the table to enjoy a late night supper.
"Christmas feels so much more fun since we're together."
"If you like it so much we can do this again next year."
Heeseung proudly said, pulling the two into a group hug.
"Merry Christmas!"
Jake shouted raising his glass, clinking as they all cheered.

December 2018...
"Back in Incheon?"
Heeseung's voice rang through the phone as Chae ah got onto the bus.
"Yeah."
She said without thinking, finding a seat at the back.
"Mhm, Merry Christmas then."
Chae ah looked out from the window, outside snowing slightly as she eyed the Seoul tower not far.
She lied that she was in Incheon but it's not like she felt like she wanted to celebrate Christmas this year.
It was pretty cold this year compared to the year before yet outside, the city was filled with lights and many people.
All the colourful lights brightened up the city, yet all she could see was white.
Chae ah got off the bus a while later, heading to a familiar place, the book cafe.
The bell chimed as she entered her destination, dusting off the snow on her padded jacket.
Surprisingly, there were a few customers, silently reading and enjoying a peaceful Christmas.
"oh it's you again!"
The owner of the store, said as Chae ah approached the counter.
"Ahjushi is it only you today?"
She found the man by himself today at the counter.
"All the other workers went back to celebrate Christmas."
"What about you?"
"Me? Well I'm spending Christmas here in my little cafe."
He answered joyfully.
"Didn't really expect you to open today. Most restaurants are closed."
"Rain or shine, snow or not, we'll be open every day."
At least something's here to stay.
"One strawberry latte?"
Chae ah nodded, paying the bill and waited at the side.
"Here you go."
The owner handed her a drink and a plate of strawberry shortcake, which she did not order.
"I didn't order this Ahjushi."
She pointed.
"I know, it's a gift for you. You've been coming here alone quite often don't you think. Enjoy this cake, Merry Christmas!"
Chae ah smiled bitterly. Strawberries were in season this time of the year but something felt missing.
"Merry Christmas to you too."
She replied.
