8 - Carpe Diem

Back to the Present

After lunch when her friends left to shoot Christine's vlog, Leila was at Allison and Nick's villa. She and her friend were in the hot tub while Nick was snorkeling from their villa's private access to the sea. There were bamboo fences around the area for privacy and the women marveled at how every detail was planned.   

Leila also took that moment to tell her about what happened that morning. As usual, her friend stayed quiet as she listened.

"I know you have this drunk amnesia moments from before too. But, are you sure you don't remember anything about this guy?" She asked after her friend was done talking.

"Ok, I have been pushing myself to think hard and I think I recall meeting him at the club. I don't have a clear memory of his face although I think I remember his voice and how he smells so good." Leila's eyes were far away as she spoke, she didn't see her friend studying her.

"Maybe you shouldn't be too hard on yourself over what may have happened. Your memory might slowly come back if you do." Her friend was devastated when her husband died years ago and she was also a witness on how she managed to slowly recover for her daughter's sake. Allison isn't personally in favor of hook ups but she's in no position to tell her friend what she did is wrong either.  

"How can I be not hard on myself?  I have constantly been telling everyone that I will be forever loyal to Philip and then on the first night of us coming here, I had sex with a guy I don't even know." Finally, she got that out of her chest. She had been bothered by those thoughts since she woke up with that guy  earlier that morning.

"Oh stop. I just told you not to be hard on yourself. You have physical needs too because you're human. Maybe you just got super attracted to this guy. I am personally curious about what he looks like because for him to crack that shell you've covered yourself with all these years, he must be something." Allison isn't her doctor today but her friend which is why she said this. "So let's say you meet him again, what will you do?" 

Leila scowls because she has been thinking of that. 

"I don't know. Maybe run away from him?" She replies making her friend laugh.

Leila left Allison and Nick's villa because she felt that she was interrupting the couple's moment for themselves. She was glad to have spoken with her friend. She got to hear someone's opinion from another point of view other than the nagging voice of her conscience. It's true, she's been alone for a time now. She didn't start dating because she felt that it's too much work and she already had more than enough on her plate. 

Carpe Diem. 

She was walking along the shaded pathway that had positive signages. It was probably placed there to uplift the mood of the guests. Not everyone who'd be coming to this place would be feeling up and happy. So far, she had been receiving its positive effect on her, especially this particular sign. She's not a superstitious person however, it feels like that this sign was speaking to her. 

Seize the day, that's what it meant in English. Does that mean should she meet this guy again, and just live for the day? She didn't want to think anymore, she's tired. She decided to take a stroll to clear the hangover from her system. It wasn't as bad as it had been earlier but the throbbing in her head is still there. It's probably caused by overthinking too. She had been walking for quite a bit already and she's grateful for the trees that covered the path otherwise, she wouldn't even dare walk this long. 

The route she took brought her to the shore of the beach where lounge chairs with umbrellas were. A pavilion that serves food and drinks was not too far from the place too. It's a good place to rest after all that walking she did. The humidity of the place made her skin feel sticky, so a dip in the water later was definitely a must. A female server immediately approached her and handed her a towel, she also asked what she'd like for her drink. Leila asks for a glass of iced water with lemon and mint. She still doesn't trust her stomach.
