Maia came back from class that day and I just wanted to relax and put her mind at ease by opting for some Chai tea. Whilst the water was on the stove, she looked through some mail and came across the daily newspaper.
There it was announced. Jack was getting married to a woman named Jacqueline Lee Bouvier. Her heart broke into a million pieces right there and just broke down in tears.
It was heartbreaking for her right now while she was really trying to get over him.
"in two months you replaced us, like it was easy"
She called her mom immediately but made sure she didn't sound like she crying. Maia didn't want to make it obvious that she was.
After a few seconds Mrs Dalton picked up the phone.
"Hello?" Nora said in a sweet way
"Mom" maia replied
"Maia?? Oh my goodness. It's so so good to hear your voice. Oh my sweetheart how are you doing?" Nora sounded really excited to hear Maia
"I'm good" that's all maia said not wanting to sound like she was going to cry.
Nora knew something was wrong because a mother always knows. Her instincts are always right.
"Is everything okay my dear?" Nora asked
"Im fine mom, just super tired" Maia responded
There was a long pause before Mrs Dalton said something Maia wish she hadn't. Yep it was just that.
"Maia is this about Jack's engagement?" Nora asked softly as if she didn't want to hurt Maia's feelings further.
Maia didn't answer.
"I'm fine mom, really. I'm over him" Maia said quickly, trying to sound as if she was okay. But Nora knew she wasn't.
"Why don't you come home for a while" Nora asked her.
She knew that she didn't want to go back, even if it was just for a visit.
"I'll be okay mother dearest. I just wanted to check up on you and dad as well as emna. How is she?? I didn't get the chance to call her because I've been so busy with classes and getting everything in order to start my internship at the Jeffersonian" Maia said, speaking so fast that Mrs Dalton had to tell her to slow down.
"Breathe Maia breathe" Mrs Dalton said
"I'm sorry, old habit" maia added
"Maia, everything is perfectly fine at home. We really miss you though. I'm hoping you will be back for Christmas" Nora said
"I was hoping you and dad and Emma would come down to Washington DC for Christmas. There's this really nice restaurant here that's having a Christmas dinner special so you don't have to cook " Maia responded.
"I'll talk to your father about it honey" Nora told her
"Let me know though momma" Maia added
"I will my sweetheart" Nora responded
"Anyways I have to go momma bear, I love you. Send hugs and kisses to dad, Emma and the bro's as well as the kennedy family" Maia said as she shrugged when she said the name "Kennedy" but it was because of Jack not the entire family.
"I love you too my dear. I will do that" Nora added
They put the phone down at the same time.
Maia's mind went back to Jack and his engagement to Jacqueline. She began to break down again. This was really the end.
"and now the chapter is closed and done"
"and now it's goodbye for us"
Sorry it took a whole year for me to update. Life got in the way and couldn't get into my account somehow 😭
