9. Look At Her Now

10 years later

"they fell in love one summer, a little wild for each other"

Maia was living her life to the fullest. She was now working at the FBI, as a forensic anthropologist. Ava had her own office not too far from where they were staying and they officially lived together in an apartment in Washington DC.

Maia wasn't dating anyone at the moment. She was seeing someone for about a year but that didn't work out due to both of them being busy with their careers.

It was a Saturday morning and Maia decided to sleep extra late due to an exhausting week. She eventually got out of bed to make herself some breakfast and get ready for the day. Maia wanted to go to the markets to get some stuff for the rest of the week.

"what a fucking week it has been, I needed that sleep" Maia said.
"You think you had a week? I had the most toxic couple in my office the entire week" Ava said laughing.

Maia cooked her some scrambled eggs with a slice of toasted rye bread and a glass of orange juice. " I think i'm gonna go with you to the markets, i need some things too" she said

She finished up and got dressed to go with Ava. It was a bit cold outside so she opted for a black tights, a sweatshirt topped with a coat and finished it off with her favorite prada boots and a scarf.

"Ready to go pumpkin?" Ava asked whilst standing at Maia's door.
"Yeah just give me a second" she shouted back

The markets were full as if everybody decided to come all at once today. Oh yes it was Thanksgiving next week and everyone rushed to get their things.

Maia decided she was going to her parent's for Thanksgiving this year as they've been coming to her for the last 5 years and wanted to take Ava with her to hyannis port. They both needed a break and wanted to relax that week.

They were both getting things to take to Massachusetts. Ava said she didn't want to arrive empty handed but Maia told her there was nothing to worry about.

They booked an early flight on Sunday morning so they didn't feel the rush for the rest of the week when everyone else would be flying out to their relatives.

It would be the first time after 10 years maia would return to Massachusetts although she was nervous, she was ready to do so.

2 hours later

Maia and Ava got all their things they needed for the week including snacks and toiletries.

When they got home, Maia went straight to her room to start packing. She started thinking what it would be like returning to that place after so many years.

She hadn't thought of jack in 10 years but here she was thinking of him suddenly.

"of course she was sad, but now she's glad she dodged a bullet"

Why was she thinking of him?
Was it the thought of going back home?
Will Hyannis port bring back memories?

She shrugged it off and went back to packing her suit case.

Maia was packing the last of her things including a book that she wanted to put in her bag when suddenly she had a small flashback of her and jack's time together.

19 July 1951

"Massachusetts sunset is always so beautiful" Maia said
"It's beautiful just like you" jack said smiling at her with his perfect teeth

Maia was resting against jack while they were sitting by the beach watching the sun go down just caressing each other.

"I just want to watch the sunset with you forever" Jack told her
"I want that too" Maia responded

The flashback started to fade as she snapped back to reality when Nicole called out to her.

"in a daze I see" Ava said teasing her
"oh yeah sorry, I don't know where my mind went to" she replied
"Okay whatever you say" Ava said while smirking at her while Maia just rolled her eyes at her.

"took a few years to soak up the tears but look at her now"

It was getting close to night time and both of them weren't really in the mood to cook so Ava opted to order takeouts. Both of them wanted burgers and a milkshake so they decided on going to their regular place downtown.

It was a bit packed because:

1. It was a Saturday
2. All the couples came here to hang out
3. They had the best burgers and cheesy fries.

They managed to score a table because Maia knew one of the waitresses.

"Your regular?" the waitress, hailey asked Maia
"Yeeeep you know me well already" Maia responded smiling
"And for you Ava?"
"I think I'll have the same" Ava said whilst laughing
"Coming right up" hailey said.

"Early tomorrow morning pumpkin" Ava told Maia
"Ugh I knoooow" Maia responded sulking putting her head on the table

Maia wasn't a morning person. It was a known fact.

After almost 2 hours, they both finished their food and was ready to leave because they had an early flight the next morning. Maia really wanted to hop in the shower, get some last minute things done and go to sleep.

Both of them were excited to get away from Washington for the week and soak up the sun.

Maia finished up her last minute things, so did Ava. Both of them went to bed
