20th December. A square in Rugard. There is a platform near the centre. There are barrels in the background now with some peasants leaning on them. Some market chatter can be heard.
Enter injured HERALD 1 on a platform & PEASANTS around him
HERALD 1: [ringing bell:] Hear ye, hear ye! [he coughs] Due to th'most unfortunate and perplexing circumstances of our state, Wizlaw Wizlawid is no longer th'Count of Rügen. His successor will be his son, Jaromar Wizlawid. At a mere age of just 12, the young sir is already displaying the commendable traits of humilitas and zeal. We are certain that the new overseer will make our [he groans in pain] island truly recover and prosper. Until th'new Count reaches th'age of maturity, theBishop of Arkona will be appointed as his regent.
PEASANT: Th'new Count is not the eldest son.
HERALD 1: Nay, for he is. [he coughs] The two eldest children of the previous Count were kill'd in combat. To add to this-.
[PEASANTS rumour amongst each other]
[ringing bell:] Hear ye, hear [he groans in pain] ye! The funeral of the previous Count's wife, Margareta the Princess of Sweden, will not be held here in Rugard, but in Uppsala in early January. However, this may be subject to change as it could be hosted in Håtuna if anyone is interested. The burial of the Count's sons will be held ceremonially in Arkona by the Bishop. May my and thy future be bright in this new era for our county.
