While her lecture was great, I was zoned out. watching this unfold. Rose's expression changed rapidly, it was hilarious. Vasilissa was shrinking into her seat every time she realized she did something. I stood there, nothing changing on my facial expression, but in the inside I was smiling.

Kirova's speech covered the usual topics: responsibly, reckless behavior, self-centeredness... boring! I found my self spacing out more often then I should have. I spaced back in when I heard I different tone in her voice and heard rose's name.

"Tou, miss Hathaway, broke the most sarced promise among our kind: the promise of a guardian to protect a moroi. it is a great trust. a trust that you violated by selfishly taking the princess away from here. the strigoi would love to finish off the dragomirs; you enabled them to do it."

" Rose didn't kidnap me." Vasilissa said. "I wanted to go, don't blame her."

Kirova tsked at them and paced the office, hands wrapped around her narrow back.

"Miss, dragomir, you could have been the one who orchestrated the entire plan for all I know, but it was still her" she pointed an accusing finger at Rose. "If she'd done her duty, she would have kept you safe."

Rose snapped.

"I did do my duty!" She shouted, jumping up from her chair. Alberta and I both flinched in a rare show of weakness, but left her along, she did not hurt anyone so she was fine. " I did keep her safe! I kept her safe when none of you," She made a sweeping gesture around the room. "could do it. I took her away to protect her. I did what I had to do. you certainly weren't going to."she paused, it looked like they were communicating to each other. Vasilissa had a pleading expression on her face, but she was pale. Kirova stared at Rose, her face pale and blank.

"Miss, Hathaway, forgive me if I fail to see the logic of how taking her out of a heavily guarded, magically environment is protecting her. unless there's something you aren't telling us?"

Rose bit her lip.

"I see. well, then. by my estimation, the only reason you left- aside from the novelty of it, no doubt- was to avoid the consequences of that horrible, destructive stunt you pulled just before your disaperrance."

" No, that's not-" Kirova cut her off.

" And that only makes my decision that much easier. as a Moroi, the princess must continue on here at the academy for her own safety, but we have no such obligations to you. you will be sent away as soon as possible."

That was cruel, I had to stop this. but how?

"I... what?" Rose stuttered out at last.

"You can't do that! she is my guardian." guardian? Hardly.

" She is no such thing, particularly since she isn't even a guardian at all. she's still a novice." Vasilissa was not going to win this argument.

"But my parents-"

"I know what your parents wanted, god rest there souls, but things have changed. Miss Hathaway is expendable. she doesn't deserve to be a guardian, and she will leave." Rose stared at Kirova, " where are you going to send me? To my mom in Nepal? Did she even know I was gone? Or maybe you'll send me to my father?" Kirova narrowed her eyes, at the power the last word held. Rose spoke again, she scared most of us, her voice was so cold," or maybe you're going to try and send me off to be a blood whore. try that, and we'll be gone by the end of the day,"

I had no clue why I said it but I did, defend Rose.
