"They have a bond." why? Why did I do that? To late they all turned to me, I had to continue now. I stood there and finally spoke, "Rose knows what Vasilissa is feeling. don't you?" I said, staring at Rose almost staring though her. but... I used Rose's nick name out loud! Oh well I guess I could use it all the time! Back to buisness.
"No... that's not possible. that hasn't happened in centuries."
It's obvious," I said, but really was it, they have been here for most of there life and never realized."i suspected as soon as I started watching them."
Neither Vasilissa or Rose responded, and Rose averted her gaze from mine." that is a gift," murmured Victor from his corner." a rare and wonderful thing.
"The best guardians always had that bond" I added " in he stories."
Kirova's outrage returned. " stories that are centuries old," she exclaimed. "surely you aren't suggesting we let her stay at the academy after every thing she's done?"
Sure that is what I am saying, why waste this? instead I shrugged- not wanting to get her more upset- and said, "she might be wilds d disrespectful, but if she had potential-"
" Wild and disrespectful?" Interrupted Rose " go the hell are you anyway? Outsourced help?""Guardian Belikov is the princess's guardian now," said Kirova, " her sanctioned guardian."
"You got cheap foregon labour to protect Lissa?"
Ouch! That hurt a lot! More than a lot!
Kirova threw her hands up in exasperation and turned to me. "you see. completely undisciplined! All the psychic bonds and very raw potential on the world can't make up for that. a guardian without discipline is worse than no guardian."
"So teach her discipline. classes just started. put her back in and get her training again."
"Impossible she'll be hopelessly behind her peers."
"No I won't," argued Rose. no one listened to her. we all know that that is not true.
" Then give her extra training sessions," I argued. and it continued on for a while. Soon...
"Who will put in the extra time? You?"
I came to an abrupt stop in my arguement. " well that's not what I-"
Kirova crossed her arms with satisfaction. "yes. that's what I thought."
Clearly at a loss, I frowned. my eyes flicked toward Vasilissa and Rose. there eyes pleading me with big eyes. But they did breakout of a high-security school and swiped half if Vasilissa's inheritance.
"Yes, i finally said. "I can mentor rose. I'll give her extra sessions along with normal ones."
" And then what?" Retorted Kirova angrily. " she go unpunished?"
"Find some other way to punish her," I replied." guardian numbers have gone done too much to risk losing another. a girl, in particular." I shuddered, it reminded me earlier of her statement that hit to close to home literally, for my family was in Russia, where I grew up and in a blood whore town. they were not blood whores but lived there to hide from the strigoi and Moroi who thought they should be protecting them.
Victor suddenly spoke from his corner "im inclined to agree with guardian Belikov. sending Rose away would've a shame, a waste of talent."
Kirova stared out her window. it was completely black outside. with the academies nocturnal schedule, morning and afternoon were relitive terms. that, and they keep the widows tinted, to an almost black colour to block out the excess light.
When she turned back around, Lissa met her eyes. "please ms. Kirova. let Rose stay."
Kirova sighed. "I'd miss Hathaway stays, here's how it will be."she turned to Rose. " Your continued enrollment at St. Valdamir's Is strictly probationary. step out of line once, and you're gone. you will attend all classes and required trainings for a novices your age. you will also train with guardian Belikov in every spare moment you have- before and after classes." again why did I open my mouth? "Other than that, you are banned from all social activities, except meals, and will stay in your dorm. fail to comply with any of this, and you will be sent... away."
Rose gave a harsh laugh. " banned from all social activities? Are you trying to keep us apart?" Rose nodded toward Vasilissa. "afraid well run away again?"
"I'm taking precautions. as I'm sure you recall, you were never properly punished for destroying school property. you have a lot to make up for." her thin lips turned into a straight line. " you have been offered a very generous deal. I suggest you don't let your attitude endanger it."
She caught my gaze. she was an idiot for fighting Kirova but I believed that Rose could be a great guardian.
After gazing at the floor for what seemed like forever Rose spoke. "fine. I accept."
I did not know what to think of that.
