Chapter 12 ~ Lightning and Popcorn

What's a Thunder jacket? I thought to myself.

I had no idea what this was until Shumai couldn't handle lightning. Everybody has a fear. I think Shumai's fear was lightning or loud sounds. This caused him to shake and hide in small places.

The worst time for him was the 4th of July. For me this was an awesome time to party and celebrate with my friends. But, for Shumai this was a scary day that his biggest fear came back.

Another awful time he heard his biggest fear was thunder and lightning. I mean why else would he need a "thunder" jacket if he was not scared of thunder or loud sounds. We had to give Shumai medicine sometimes, to calm him down because he was so shaking so much. So we bought a thunder jacket! This was a jacket you put on your dog to "calm him down." So we tried it. We put on the straps and attached all the Velcro. I put quotes on calm him down because I never thought some piece of fabric could change dogs emotions.

When it was on, he just stood in that spot for a minute or so. It almost looked like after we put it on he was in shock that we had to put a jacket on him. But I think it calmed him down. I mean he would stop shaking with in an hour. Usually he shakes for about 2 hours or as long as the loud noises go and add 10 minutes.Shumai got better as a year went by and doesn't get as scared now.

Do you know those big dogs, that when you go to someone's house they run and jump on you. Well, Shumai is nothing like that. Thankfully, Shumai will bark but he is not even close to a crazy dog. Also, whenever I would hang with my friends he would be sleeping half of the time or the whole time. Now I know why I like him so much. We both love sleep.

Every day we would surround Shumai with anything he wanted. It was almost like he was annie in that scene that she went into that giant mansion that Mr. Warbucks owned and everybody who worked there asked what she wanted. Then she sang a song about how much she liked it there.

But seriously, we gave him treats, he had 3 beds, sometimes more. Also, if he didn't like it he would sleep on the couch or bed. But we didn't always want him to go on the couch or chair because he would always shed his fur all over the place. But anyway, I like Shumai the most when he sleeps on a bed. In my opinion he looks way more relaxed and chill on it.

One time when Shumai got up on the high bed me and my mom were on, I decided to bring popcorn. I guess Shumai was really hungry because all he would do was try to eat popcorn. I didn't have much salt or butter on it so I decided to give him a piece and it was the funniest thing to see when he started eating it. I don't know if it was just me but I thought it was not only cute but hilarious. If I could I would post the video one the top of this chapter. But sadly I'll just give you a photo of him in the video. Your welcome.
