VALERIE'S P.O.V

[PLAY SONG WHEN YOU SEE 'PLAY SONG HERE'.]

The ride was painfully silent. Harry didn't even want to speak. His jaw remained clenched, his dark brows pulled together. Even when we dropped Zayn off, even at the stop lights, even as we pulled up into the garage, and even when we got inside his apartment, he didn't say a single. Word.

I understood.

He had a moment where he actually tried to do the right thing, and watched it crumble before him. I had a different perspective on him, after knowing what I know, now. I would never justify his actions--but I could try to empathize, at least. I couldn't be a hypocrite; forgiving my sister and not him. I had to allow him to show me he wasn't who I thought he was. If I based people on one thing instead of understanding them as an entire complex being, no one would ever be able to open up, to change, to grow. To do anything, really. I'm not who I used to be, and he isn't either.

Niall did try to make jokes, but Vivian would tell him to shut the fuck up up. And Harry--nothing. Silent.

One we arrived, he walked into his bedroom and closed the door. When I went to follow, Niall put his arm in front of me, shaking his head.

"Don't even bother. He's in a mood," he said. "We've tried a billion times."

"I could just try."

"I warned you..." Niall sighed to himself. "Go do that, I'm going to go shower, try not to die."

"Hey, Val—" Vivian called out from the couch. "Com'ere for a second..."

I moved from Niall and made my way to where my sister was seated, who seemed to be a bit out of it, herself.

"Thank you, for being understanding. I know this is a lot for you and I know you have... probably spent nights thinking about all of this shit we put you in, but thank you for understanding. You just told Niall 'you could try' and I just want to say you're doing more than trying. And I see it. This isn't easy, I know. So thank you."

I smiled and kissed her forehead. "I know this isn't easy for you either. But we'll do it. Together."

She gave me a warm hug and then sighed. "And you could talk to Harry. I think you're the only one who could get through to him. Ignore Niall, you know how he is."

I snickered and rolled my eyes before heading back to Harry's door to knock. When he didn't answer I let out a soft mumble, "Harry, it's Valerie."

I then proceeded to push open, which revealed him standing at his large windows. He had his arms above his head, leaning against it as he stared into the city. I could see every muscle in his back through the thin white fabric of his shirt. I closed the door behind me quietly, and stood there, staring.

"D'you want to get high with me?" Harry rasped, suddenly, breaking the silence.

I blinked. "Do I want to get... ? I mean..." I put my hands on my hips. "Okay, yeah."

"Good." Harry turned to me, a joint in his hand rolled perfectly. He had a small smile on his lips. "I'm not dealin' with this shit sober..."
