The war is finally over..

Chapter 2 - together again

(Peeta's pov)

I wake up to Katniss screaming, she's having a nightmare, instantly I try waking her up. "Katniss! Katniss!" I try shouting her name but she doesn't wake.

I grab her hand and try shaking her awake but she is still screaming. I hear the words "PEETA!! NOO! DON'T DO THAT TO HIM!" Come out her mouth.

She's having nightmares about me. I feel a wave of guilt fly over me but I then quickly continue to try and wake her up. I end up kissing her softly but slowly on the lips and the screaming stops. She opens her eyes at rapid speed whilst panting loudly. "What happened?.. oh no, another nightmare.." she says with a frown. "I'm so sorry peeta I didn't mean to wake you, thanks for helping me though," she says still in slight shock.

"It's alright, do you want to tell me what it was about?" I say with a slight smile.

She nods and tells me "Snow was alive, he slashed you with a belt until you passed out and then got a knife and cut your throat," she says shivering with tears running down her face.

I wipe the tears off her cheeks and give a a quick but kind kiss. "I'm here and snow is dead. Don't you ever worry about me, I'll be fine and I'll always protect you and myself."

She looks at me with a relieved face and snuggles into my chest. I check the time and it reads 03:28 so I tell her we should go back to sleep for a while and we both drift back off.

I wake up again to hear a banging on the door. I rush downstairs as Katniss is still fast asleep. I slide my dressing gown on before going to get the door. Before I do though I get a glimpse of the time and the clock reads 08:42 and I wonder who would be at the door so early. I open the door to see a very drunk haymitch.

"BREAD BOY! You're back!!" He shouts joyfully as he pats my chest.

"Yup! Got out of 13 as soon as I could," I yawn.

"Where's Katniss?" Haymitch asks.

"Still asleep," I say "need me to go get her?"

Haymitch nods and I instruct him to come in. I tell him I'll be back in a second and go to wake up Katniss.

"Katniss, my love," I say softy "it's time to wake up, haymitch is here to see you,"

she slowly opens her eyes and gives me a quick smile.

"What time is it?" She says with her croaky morning voice.

I check the clock and it reads 08:47,

"08:47" I tell her.

She lifts up the duvet and gets out of bed. She gives me a quick kiss before trudging downstairs to see haymitch.

(Katniss' pov)

"I see the 'star-crossed lovers' have reunited," haymitch laughs in a drunk expression as always.

Haymitch has only started drinking more since effie went back to the capitol. He really misses her and i understand why to be honest. They were totally in love then effie goes straight back to the capitol. They dated for a while but then broke up since haymitch didn't want to go back to the capitol with her, I'm not sure why but it's either cause of me, because of the war even though paylor is doing a much better job at managing panem and the Capitol but it could also just be because 12 is his home but anyways.

"What do you need haymitch? It's early and I'm tired," I tell him sleepily.

He rolls his eyes at me and says "I just came to check on you, we both haven't been doing amazing recently it's pretty obvious, but you're probably feeling a bit better now that peeta is here."

"Yeah having peeta here has made me feel so much better, you should call effie though, maybe she can come visit?" I tell him as I slowly start to wake up a bit.

"Nah.. even if she did actually want to come, which she probably won't, it will be so awkward," haymitch says with a sort of embarrassed look on his face.

"Alright, just sayin', it's always worth a try," I kind of giggle.

Haymitch rolls his eyes at me again and turns around to walk out the door.

"Goodbye sweetheart! You really can be a bit of a bitch sometimes!" Haymitch laughs.

I giggle and shout bye, I close the door to go back upstairs.

Peeta is in the shower I think since I can hear the water running and the bathroom door is closed. I hop back in bed since I'm still tired but I first look at the time. The clock reads 09:08 so I decide I'll just wait for peeta to get out the shower. While I'm waiting I choose to read my book.

Peeta gets out the shower about 5 minutes later and comes through with just a towel on. I can't help but stare at his muscly arms and his hot abs. He looks strong and buff but also gentle and calming. He giggles at me and his beautiful ocean blue eyes glisten. He takes his towel off and quickly changes into some jeans and a navy green shirt. I couldn't help but watch him get changed, I know I shouldn't have but ive seen it before and this time it feels strange, I feel so deeply in love. While I'm in my thoughts he comes over to me and starts talking. I get a fright and slightly jump. He starts laughing but also apologises. I forgive him and we laugh for a few seconds.

"I'm gonna make some breakfast while you get dressed, darling" peeta says with a smile.

I love it when he calls me darling, he's only done it a few times but it feels so nice.

"Alrighty!" I respond.

Peeta walks downstairs while I put my leggings and a comfortable light blue shirt on. I walk downstairs and the kitchen smells like heaven. Peeta made crepes. He knows they are my favourites especially when he made them. He tells me they are almost ready so I put some knifes, forks, strawberries and of course the maple syrup. Shortly peeta comes and gives me 2 crepes and also gives himself 2. I grab the maple syrup and drench my crepes in it then I grab the strawberries and sprinkle them on. Peeta laughs to himself and I stare at him with the 'what's so funny face?' We both giggle then dig into our crepes.

Hey again! I just couldn't wait to write another chapter of this so I didn't wait for any replies. This was a much longer chapter than the first but I'm pretty happy with it. Please let me know if I can do anything to improve my skills or anything you'd like to see happen in the story.
