Sierra had just finished putting the groceries away when the doorbell rang. She threw the last of the paper bags into the recycle bin and went to answer the door. "Hello," she said as she opened the door to the mailman. "Hello Sierra, here's a package for you," he said as he handed the small box to her. "Thank you," she said. Sierra shut the door and inspected the box. "What's that?" Alex asked her. "I don't know," she said as she dashed upstairs. Sierra went into her room and locked the door. She ran her hands over the package. With shaky hands she opened the box. She cut the tape and looked in the box. At the bottom of the box there was a piece of paper. She took the paper out of the box and flipped it over. She couldn't believe her eyes, all that was on the paper was a red handprint. Sierra turned the paper over and inspected it to see if there was anything else on it, but found nothing. Sierra heard someone coming up the stairs and quickly hid the box under her pillow. She sat down on her bed and opened up a book just as the door began to open. Sierra's dad popped his head into the room, "Hey, dinner's ready,". "Okay, I'm coming," Sierra said as she pretended to finish the page. As soon as her dad left the room she took out the box. Sierra looked the box over and noticed there was no return address. This guy was smart. Sierra carefully resealed the box and put it where no one would ever look, her sock drawer. She rearranged the socks so they covered the box and quietly shut the drawer. Then she went downstairs to eat. Once everyone was seated they began passing the food around the table. When everyone had gotten there food the conversations began. "So who was at the door?" Sierra's mom asked. "Oh, um, nobody," Sierra said playing with her food. Sierra managed to finish dinner without having to talk much, only giving an occasional yes or no to a question. When dinner was divine Sierra decided to help her mom out with the dishes. She took the dirty ones over and prepared some soapy water. She had just began to dry off the first plate, when her mother came in. "Oh, thanks for doing these," she said with a smile," I was just coming in to do them,". "It's okay, I've got it," Sierra said. "I'll do the pots and pans," her mom said. Her mom turned on the tv to the news. Sierra listened to the usual stories but looked to the tv when a murder story came up. Once again the murderer left a bloody handprint but this time he left a message.
