"Why, me?" Seth asked, slamming his phone. Cruz coughed as he played his turn. A game of Rummy with a sick person sucked. Especially if you aren't the sick one.
"What's wrong Seth? Is Bree still not texting you?" Cruz guessed, he always guessed right surprising,
"Yeah but now Zoë's not responding. Are they in trouble? Are they dead?!" Seth panicked,
"Calm down, they are probably both busy doing something fun!-"
Cruz was gonna finish his sentence but he started coughing. Seth nudged his chair further from Cruz. Cruz gripped onto his chest like he was holding a necklace. The amulet, Seth thought. He tried to call Zoë again. Didn't work. He called Bree and she actually answered.
"Bree! Are you guys-" Seth was about to finish his sentence until,
"STOP YOU ARE SO DUMB, TAKE A HINT. I DON'T WANNA TALK TO YOU, DUMB F###!", A boy on the other phone said,
Before Seth said anything, the person on the phone hung up. Seth was struck about what just happened. Who in the right mind would say that to someone?,Seth wondered.
Cruz acted like nothing happened. He probably couldn't hear what happened. Even if the person, who obviously wasn't Bree, screamed it.
Cruz should've heard it right? Seth thought to himself.
All these moments ran through Seth like a rifle shooting all at once. Seth stood up off of his chair and started pacing. Cruz's eyes followed Seth in confusion. Seth stopped for a second and sighed. He walked outside leaving Cruz alone.
Cruz was confused on Seth. Like why was Seth panicking so much? He felt something rub on his leg. He looked underneath the table, an orange cat. Cruz hopped off his chair to inspect the cat more. "How did you get here?" Cruz asked as he edged the cat towards him. The cat had brown eyes with a collar which had the name plate shaped like a star.
The cat walked towards Cruz and sat down. "What's your name little one?" Cruz said as he analyzed the collar. Printed on the collar it read 'Molly'. Cruz's eyes widen, This has to be a coincidence that this cat has the same name as my dead friend. This has to be, Cruz told himself.
"Molly. That's a lovely name," Cruz told himself as he was about to pet the cat.
The cat's ears pricked up as he said her name. The cat's head moved and the body followed. Molly started strolling to the kitchen. Cruz followed suit towards the kitchen.
His kitchen was a mess, soup packages next to medication bottles and dust everywhere. Seth almost gagged when he walked into Cruz's place. It wasn't Cruz's fault, he was sick. He had been vomiting and coughing like crazy.
The cat jumped onto the counter with her tail swinging side by side. Cruz's eyes followed Molly as she walked over to a picture by the sink.
The picture was of all of his friends. Including the people he barely talked to like Zoë, Ella, Dixie and... Molly. It was them all at a dance wearing their best outfits. Zoë took the picture with the camera she bought.
"Do you like the photo? I quite like it a lot, heh it's even in my kitchen," Cruz chuckled to himself. Molly looked at the photo and meowed. Cruz sighed and picked up the photo, "What do you see in this photo? It was taken a long time ago." Cruz looked closer to the photo,
"What do I see in that photo? I see my closest friends in the whole universe!" A voice replied,
Cruz looked to where the cat was. The cat was now Molly. Their dead friend, Molly. She was sitting on the edge of the countertop, kicking her legs back and forth. The only difference from her was that her left arm was gone and her collar was now a necklace with a star.
"AHHH! WHERE-WHERE IS YOUR ARM?!" Cruz screamed as he fell to the floor,
"Wow, not even a 'I missed you Molly! Sign my shirt and sell my soul!' just a 'Where's your arm?'" Molly said as if she was offended.
Cruz just stared at Molly in confusion. Molly rolled her eyes and hopped off the countertop. She looked down at Cruz, waiting for him to stand up. Cruz saw the hint and stood up. He put the picture to the closest countertop near him. He brushed all the dirt that he landed in from the fall.
"Oh. What happened to you? You're more.. grounded," Molly wondered,
"Well, you died then I got sick. Now Zoë and Bree are missing so like, I'm not supposed to be glad, " Cruz answered,
"I suspected this from y'all. After I die, you guys run around and do stupid stuff. You're not an alcoholic yet, right? "
"No!"
"Dang it. Uhm is Ella, Pepper or Dixie an alcoholic? "
"N-.. I don't think so?"
Molly looked a little disappointed but smiled. Cruz awkwardly just stood across from Molly.
"So how's it like being a ghost?" Cruz asked trying to make conversation,
"Pfft- I'm not a ghost," Molly answered which made Cruz raise an eyebrow.
"Then what are you?"
Molly was stumped by that question as she played around with her necklace.
"I'm more like.. a distraction?" Molly finally answered,
"Distraction?" Cruz replied,
Seth. Cruz thought. He ran towards the front of the house. As he feared, Seth was gone.
