"Oh my God, I had a swing set just like that one when I was a kid!"

Alahna let out a nervous and breathy chuckle when Dave said that, making his way to the front porch where she still stood. She took this brief moment to look at him, if anything because she was too nervous to check and see how her parents were reacting to Dave's appearance.

The second thing he said was,

"And you... must be Alahna's brother and sister."

It was just a stupid joke to break the ice and for a brief (horrifying) moment, Alahna was afraid of how it would be received but the giggle that slipped through the cracks of her mum's lips were ease her mind a bit.

Another wave of relief washed over her when her dad spoke up. "Well, someone clearly wants to keep the inevitable interrogation portion of this visit as mild as possible." He joked.

Dave grinned proudly, wrapping an arm around Alahna's shoulders and making her flush profusely under everyone's gaze. She barely even regsitered the fact that her father had said the words interrogation portion and that they could work wonderfully in a poem at some point in the future.

"Oh God." The girl muttered under her breath, a delicate smile plastered on her lips. "Okay, uh... Dave, this is my dad, Richard and my mum, Marigold."

Dave's eyes widened in faux shock, ever so determined to make the silly joke last.

"Your parents? No way."

Alahna rolled her eyes fondly. "Yes way. Guys, this is my boyfriend. He is capable of having a serious conversation, by the way." She made sure to point out.

"Don't make me look like a goof, will you?" Dave chuckled. "It's nice to meet you both. Terrifying but nice." He commented sheepishly.

"Oh don't worry dear, we don't bite." Alahna's mum smiled fondly. "Oh goodness, this is so exciting. Come in you two, come in."

Despite what it might've looked like on the outside, Dave was shitting his pants. He'd only done the whole meet your girlfriends parent's thing a limited amount of times, and it had never felt quite as important as it did then. His humor was nothing but a defense mechanism.

When he walked in, he intertwined his fingers with Alahna's as if her left hand was his lifeline.

"You really are a natural." Alahna commented, gently leading Dave to the living room couch.

"Funny, you almost sound relieved." He jokingly replied.

"Oh I'm sorry, was my compulsive writing in the car not enough proof of how nervous I was?" Alahna chuckled.
