"Yeah, alright... talk to you soon, Mom... love you, too... bye."
Dave hung up the phone. The whole circus crew (as Bonnie affectionally called the group every so often) had just arrived to Daly City, California for the last gig of the year. Lisa and Virginia had already gone back home but Alahna obviously stayed.
If there was something she was looking forward to, it was to welcome the New Year with Dave.
"Any news?" Alahna asked him as he joined her on the bed where she'd been laying.
"Well, Lisa finished the book you gave her on the plane and Mom wanted me to let you know that you've fucking traumatized her daughter." He chuckled.
Alahna rolled her eyes. "That's definitely not what she said."
"Word for word baby, I swear." Dave said, even though his playful grin gave him away.
"I'm surprised she finished the book so quickly." Alahna mused. "I heard it's quite a heavy book to get through. You know, in terms of content."
"Well yeah, it's porn."
"Erotica." Alahna corrected him for what felt like the thousandth time.
"Porn."
"Dave, I'm going to kick you."
But she didn't. The exhaustion from the travelling was catching up to both of them and soon enough, they were taking a well-deserved nap.
Dave had taken his most favourite spot in the world, which was right against Alahna's back. His arms were wrapped around her torso and he had his face burried in the crook of her neck. Unfortunately though, he was the only one having a peaceful sleep.
Ever since Bonnie had discovered that she was pregnant and had made Alahna promise not to reveal the details, she'd been having dreams that were less than nice. They all involved her fucking up, saying something she wasn't supposed to or just caving under the pressure and telling Dave everything. In her dreams, he was always furious, sad or worst of all, dissapointed. He always said he didn't know how he could ever trust her again, that he felt betrayed, sometimes he shed a few tears...
Alahna knew this was slowly but surely eating her alive, but there was nothing she could do. She made a promise to Bonnie and she had to keep it.
She woke up feeling overwhelmingly guilty. Fortunately though, Dave was still asleep next to her so he wouldn't ask any questions as to why she looked like she had just gotten horrible news. Slowly, she got up and headed to the shared bathroom that the hotel room provided.
"Come on Nana, get a grip." Alahna muttered to herself through gritted teeth, looking at her own face in the mirror. She was a bit pale and her eyes were red and teary. "This is a good day. It's New Years Eve and you're in Los Angeles with Dave." Saying his name, the name of the person she loved more than anything and never intended to purposely hurt made her screw her eyes shut. She took a deep breath and opened them again. "He doesn't have to know yet. You'll freak him out if you do. It'll ruin his day and you don't want that. This is good." She sighed. "This is good." She breathed out.
