You woke up the next morning to several missed calls and texts from people you haven't spoken to in years. College friends you've lost touch with. Many of the texts looked the same. The old groupchats you were in, were suddenly active again.
'You're dating an athlete?'
'you and sakusa kiyoomi?'
'Okayyy Y/n I see you, girl, we need to hangout aga...'
You scrolled through the texts on your lock screen clearing any and every notification that mentioned Sakusa. "What the hell?" you mumbled out loud as you sat up on your bed and unplugged your phone.
The confusion you woke up with was genuine. The only person who had texted you that you were going to give a response to was your old friend, Momo. You met in college and only lost touch because she lived in the States. You occasionally messaged of both of you happened to be online at the same time.

You closed your phone and looked through the old group chat until you saw the link someone had sent. When it loaded you jaw practically hit the floor.
'Sakusa Kiyoomi and new girlfriend? Several sources have provided images prior to last nights Volleyball game.'
That was the headline and it couldn't possibly be you, when could you have been photographed together aside from the game. But as you scrolled down in the article you saw a photo of you and Sakusa in your apartment hallway. The other day when you had brought him soup.
You thought back to that day and remembered the mystery person in the hallway. "You've got to be kidding me." you mumbled as you read the small section under that photo.
'Very reliable sources say she (Sakusa's new girlfriend) was leaving his apartment the morning after a romantic night together.'
"Not true! Not even close!" You shout at your phone as if the writer of the article could hear you. The next photo was of when he approached you at the game, you hadn't even realized you were being photographed. There were so many flashes yesterday you had gotten used to it quickly.
'Sakusa introduced his teammates to his new girlfriend. Who spent the game watching her boyfriend and cheering for him courtside. I guess we finally know who he was talking about in the drunk Instagram livestream last week, read about it here'
Followed by photos of you cheering for the team, which now you regret. "What livestream?" You asked out loud to nobody in particular as you clicked the word 'here' that took you to another article on the same website. The article was posted last week and the headline read;

The Olympic Volleyball player took to an Instagram live last night after being very inactive on social media and talked about a mystery girl. The live chat began to speculate that he might be in a relationship with his ex and he shut that rumor down quickly while talking about a new girl. Sakusa said; "She's a really pretty girl, but I don't know how to talk to her." His fans provided him with tips in the comments and the live only lasted for about 10 minutes before it abruptly ended.

"Holy shit, who the hell wrote this article?" You hissed as you scrolled to the top of the article and read the name. Then you went back to the first article to see if it was the same person.
Spoiler alert: It was.
Gossip Japan was the website and the writer was somebody named 'P.M Ito' which must've been a pen name. You were stressed now, first thing in the morning and suddenly you wanted coffee.
First, you wanted to send a follow up text to Momo.

Momo: girl you know how new outlets work...no privacy, especially for famous people Momo: at least he's cute, you have dating rumors with a cute athlete! that's the bright side!
You: i don't want dating rumors period!
Momo: fair. how come you haven't mentioned this neighbor though?
You: didn't seem important, besides were barely even friends
Momo: right, we'll the last i heard you got that job at the sports ball company so that's why you were there then?
You: exactly. it's a part of my job 🫤 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You closed your phone and tossed it to the end of your better before getting up and heading towards the kitchen. "I need coffee."
So you began to make coffee with the machine in the kitchen that you rarely used. It was Ayaka's she loved coffee but had to give it up. "If I would've known trying to become friends with that guy was going to get me in articles I would've avoided it." You spoke out loud as the coffee began brewing.
Then it occurred to you, that you had never seen Sakusa's Instagram--though according to the article, he was very inactive. You couldn't even say much to that as you never really posted on your Instagram, and it was private.
When you looked up his name you found him pretty quickly, he was verified. No surprise there. He had 2.3 Million followers, which did kind of shock you, almost as much as finding out he played in the Olympics last year from that stupid article. Though if he played in the Olympics you shouldn't be too surprised he had such a following.
He only had twelve posts and a few were ads, five to be specific. two selfies, three scenery photos, and one photo of him and his MSBY teammates. He only followed 53 people, so when you decided to hit the follow button you didn't expect much.
Somehow though only maybe 2 minutes after you poured your cup of coffee he requested to follow you back. "How?" you mumbled as you set your coffee back down. You had thought for a split second it wasn't real but sure enough it was.
