A person seeking Truth wherever it may be, will come to realise that just like many tools of devils to deceive humans, Wattpad is a place for deception. Here, desires and lusts are spread like a wildfire. Muslim or non-Muslim, reader or author, they all seek one thing: an escape to a world of fiction where they are given what they want.

Hours upon hours, they lost themselves into plots and twists.

What is greater deception than this where you are being led away from your true path?

Any person who understands that his heart was only created for one purpose, will leave that which is of no benefit to him for his Hereafter.

As Imam Ibnul Jawzi mentioned in his book 'Captured Thoughts':
"Beware of busying your heart with other than the purpose for which it was created for. Force yourself to endure bitterness and subdue if it refuses." (P. 850).

Truth is not hard upon the one sincerely seeking it. Allah makes it easy for his heart to accept and for his desires to withdraw.

In a book called "The Devil's Deceptions" written by our great scholar, Imam Ibnul Jawzi (may Allah have mercy upon him). He speaks about how devil deceive humans. A great book to read, Subhan Allah.

In one of the chapters, he speaks about the Devil's deception of Preachers and Storytellers.

What he said is indeed tremendous and absolutely on point when it comes to 'Muslim' books of today.

He says: ...then ignorant people began practicing this trade (storytelling), so its quality (and purpose) diminished and only women and laypeople began attending these sessions. Preachers stopped focusing on knowledge and focused on stories that appeal to ignorant people.

That time, it was storytelling. Today, people write stories instead of doing proper sessions like old times. However, the concept is the same, you are conveying a 'story' nonetheless.

The above statement indicates that storytelling had purpose. They told true stories and for people to learn from them. It refutes the statement of some authors who say 'our stories are not representation of Islam nor we claim to preach through our books'. If your book has no purpose then it is as good as nothing and a waste of time for yourself and your readers. The basis of storytelling was for people to learn from and later on it all diminished.

Today, you can see that majority of people on Wattpad are women and laypeople. Instead, of seeking proper knowledge of their religion and taking care of their youth, they approach this place and lost themselves.

And he (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, mentioning some of the problems of storytellers: Another problem is that they look for topics that excite others.

So true what he said. In order to entertain others, Muslim authors come up with strange topics and writing content. Some authors are extreme in writing fantasy story that goes beyond imagination. Select believable topics and stop writing something that never existed before and never will.

Furthermore, he says: Attendees of storytelling sessions are usually filled with desires, so both the speaker and listener go astray.

A very good point he mentioned here. Due to their desire of writing fiction, they end up writing so many false things.

This is a deception of the devil when it comes to authors, today. He had beautified fiction writing and made it a place of temptation for both author and the reader.

Dear authors and readers, protect yourself from such temptations.

May Allah protect us from the traps of the devil.
