Winter had ascended quickly and today was the day the Hughes brothers were playing against each other. Luke and I had silently made our way outside from all the pre-game media attention to get a breath of fresh air.

The sun had descended, painting the sky in warm hues of red and orange as Luke and I sought solace in a quiet corner outside the bustling arena. I was decked out in a nice dress that struck a balance between fancy and comfy, feeling the evening air carry a mix of chill and excitement, creating an atmosphere that was both tense and cool.

Perched on a bench, Luke and I conversed into pregame chatter, discussing strategies and sharing a few laughs over inside jokes. Knowing that Luke's brother played for the Canucks added an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming game, and being there with Luke made it all the more special.

"You know," Luke said, breaking the quiet, "This game is gonna be tough, but I'm happy you're here with me."

A warm smile spread across my face as I felt my cheeks flush. "Wouldn't miss it for anything. Just go out there, play your heart out, and let's see where the night takes us."

As we continued our conversation, the city lights began to twinkle, casting a magical backdrop to the evening. Luke's eyes held a mix of excitement and nerves, and I couldn't help but notice the subtle tension building between us it was like something out of my dreams.

"I can't shake these nerves," Luke admitted, sounding a bit unsure.

I reached over, giving his shoulder a comforting pat. "I Get it. Nerves are normal, especially with your brother on the other team. But seriously, you've got the skills and you'll have Jack. Tonight, you're gonna rock it. I'm here with you, no matter what."

Luke responded with a grateful smile, and the city lights continued to shimmer as the anticipation for the game intensified.

The match kicked off, and the energy in the air was electrifying. Amidst the cheers and the roar of the crowd, Luke played with a fiery determination. I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride watching him on the ice, and as the game progressed, I offered words of encouragement and support whenever I could. We had been pairs for a while now after Lindy discovered the chemistry we held on the ice.

During a break, Luke skated over, looking both exhausted and exhilarated. I could see the nerves in his eyes, and without saying a word, I pulled him into a quick, reassuring hug. "You're doing amazing out there. Just keep going, and we'll celebrate after."

His grateful nod spoke volumes, and we both headed back into the arena, the anticipation for the final moments building.

As the clock ticked down for the second period, the intensity reached its peak. Luke's nerves were visible, but he continued to give his all. Luke and I shared a look that screamed reassurance as we headed off the ice.

After Lindy gave the team a speech Luke made his way over to me.

"That was something else," Luke said, breaking the silence.

I nodded, a smile playing on my lips. "Yeah, it was. You played amazingly out there. Your nerves didn't stand a chance against your skills."

Luke chuckled, a sense of relief evident in his expression. "I appreciate your words, Quince. It meant a lot to have you there with me."

"It was my pleasure," I replied, genuinely. We smiled at each other before Jack came over talking about how good Luke was playing.

As we walked back towards the ice, we could hear the arena buzzing with energy ready to see how the rest of the game unfolded. Nico comes up to me while we warm up a little in between the intermission. "You and Luke look amazing out there! keep it up!" He said his hand landing on my back.
