Mention of bullying, suicide references

CHAPTER 5

I run downstairs, capture weapon at the ready. I burst through the door, and see Yagi stood next to a smashed glass vase.

'Morning Yagi'. He looks down at the floor. Nem also rushes in. 'Damn Yagi, my Nan gave me that glass'.

'I-I'm really sorry Nem.' She laughs. 'Don't worry about it. I know someone who knows someone with a mending quirk'.

Suddenly, Hizahi runs down the stairs with his directional speaker. 'Sorry! I couldn't find it! What did I miss?' He noties Yagi, Nem and me all looking at the broken glass.

'Been there' he chuckles. Nem hands Yagi a dustpan and brush, whilst I walk over to Mic.

'Can we go now?'

'Sure thing Sho. Let me just grab my stuff real quick'.

- later -

'Thanks for the lift' I say, and leave the car. 'Sho-' I slam the door on him before he can say anything, and begin trudging to my flat.

He winds down the window, slightly activating his quirk.

'Sho, wanna hang out today?' I continue walking to the flat, pretending I didn't hear him.

'Oh SHOTAAAA' He yells, rattling the glass doors. I huff, turn around, and head back to the car.

'I said I'm busy today' I hiss. He laughs. 'Those papers can wait my guy, but I have an idea of what we can do today'.

'What?' I grumble. He smiles.

- later -

I am in literal heaven. There is a cat on my lap, two more at my feet, and a strong coffee just waiting to be drunk. This is amazing. Why haven't I come here sooner?

Hizashi looks at me. 'Was that a smile?' I catch myself, immediately frowning. 'No'.

'I knew you'd like it here. To be honest, I'm suprised you haven't come here sooner, considering you love cats and coffee'. The cat on my lap begins kneeding her paws into my stomach, and I can't help but smile again.

'There it is again! You smiled!' I finally give in. 'Fine, yes I did.' Hizashi claps, startling the cat on my lap, who jumps off. I give him a death glare.

A waitress comes over. 'Everything okay for the cute couple at table 3?' I immediately go bright red. 'N-no were not-'

'Yep!' Hizashi says, smiling. 'Me and my husband are having a wonderful time, thank you!'

'Anything more I can get for you two?' Hizashi thinks. 'Could you grab us a couple of slices of coffee and walnut cake please?' He flashes his signature smile. The waitress laughs. 'Of course, I'll be back in just a sec'. She wanders off.

I glare at Hizashi. 'That's not funny Zashi. If anyone overheard then we'd have every newspaper in Japan going crazy'. He laughs. 'Chill man, just winding you up'. I'm about to get angry again, but the cat jumps back on my lap, and continues kneeding me.

A different waitress returns. 'Here you go guys.' She stands there awkwardly. Unsure of what to say next.

'Um, could I possibly. Well, my nephew-' Hizashi smiles. 'Sure no worries!' He grabs a pen out of his bag, as a waitress hands over a piece of notepaper. He signs it.

'Thanks!' She continues standing there awkwardly. Hizashi elbows me in the side. 'W-what?' The waitress looks at me. 'I think she wants your signature too man'. My signature? Why me? Nobdody, literally nobody knows who I am. And I like it that way.

'Me?' She laughs. 'Yes you Eraserhead. My nephew is a big fan of yours. Probably the biggest.' I look at her dumbfounded. 'S-sure I guess'. She hands over the paper, and I stare at it. It's been so long since I've signed anything. Can I even remember my own signature?

I begin to write. 'What's his name?' I ask. 'Ren' she says. I address it to ren, wish him luck in becoming a hero, and sign it with my hero name. I then draw a cat paw print for good meaure. I had it back over to her.

'Thanks!' She smiles. 'He really wants to be a hero, and I'm sure this will boost his confidence. He's worried his quirk isn't strong enough'. Hizashi pipes up 'what's his quirk?' She smiles. 'He's completely immune to other's quirks. He's upset because it's not as flashy as his classmates'. I smile, completely understanding.

'That is probably one of the most useful quirks in battle. Nobody can touch him'. She smiles again. 'That's what I keep telling him!' I smile at her. 'Well tell him that Eraserhead would be honoured to have him in his class'. Hizashi adds 'Yeah, the little listener would make an excellent hero!' She smiles again.

'Thank you two so much. He's had a really tough year and I'm sure this will help him a lot.'

Hizashi becomes worried. 'Oh no, what happened?' The waitress looks sad. 'He was getting bullied quite badly by some people in his class, and well, he kinda...he didn't want to be around anymore'. Hizashi claps his hand over his mouth, gasping.

'Yeah. He's doing a lot better though now, thankfully'. Shit. This kid really is me. I riffle around in my bag, pulling out my yellow goggles.

'Here'. I hand the waitress my goggles. 'Oh no, I couldn't possibly-'

'Honestly, It's fine. I wear through them so quickly I need a new pair anyways'. I try and give her my best smile. She tears up. 'You two are so kind'. She bows. 'Thank you so much, for everything you do'. She stands upright. 'Your tab is on us'. She smiles, then heads to the staffroom.

'Wow Shota. Don't think i've seen you give your goggles to anybody'. I fiddle with my jumper, mumbling. 'Just wanted to make sure the kid was okay, you know?' Hizashi smiles. 'Totally get it.'

- later -

I open the door to my flat, and Hizashi runs past, heading straight to the toilet. 'Sorry!' He says as he pushes past.

Christ. That man will be the death of me. My cats come running up to me, Honey and Coal. They brush against my legs.

'I know I know, Dad's been out seeing other cats. I'm sorry' I scoop up Honey, nuzzling into her soft fur. She purs.

I head into the kitchen, giving them their food. They immediately being eating. Hizashi returns from the toilet.

'Success?' I ask. Hizashi snorts, flipping me off. He pulls himself up onto the counter, and begins humming.

I open the fridge, revealing absolutely nothing except for three jelly pouches. 'So erm, I don't have much I'm afriad'. He slides off the counter. 'It's okay Sho, I can work with what you've got'. He opens the fridge, frowning.

'Dude, where's all your food?' I fiddle with the hem of my shirt. 'Haven't had a chance to restock'. Hizashi rolls his eyes. 'Fine, take-out it is'. I smile at him, as he opens his phone going onto a food ordering app.

God I love him.
