We're in the parking lot of a big building. Since I don't know my way around, I'm very thankful he's with me.
"This way" He says entering a dark alley behind the building.
Before we get on the other side he stops me by putting an arm on my shoulder.
"Ok careful now. If they already know what I did, then they're waiting on the other side, do you know how to use the gun?"
"Can't be that hard" He doesn't look satisfied with my answer.
"Put it in front of you, eye height. Your aim probably sucks, but this is just for emergencies."
"Wow, great pep talk"
"Just try"
I hold the weapon up, but it's such an unnatural feeling. He holds my arm up and gets closer to check if the aim is correct. Our faces are so close I almost blush. What the hell am I doing?
"You're ready"
We give each other an accomplice look. Just when we're about to run we hear someone.
"Riley!" I freeze. Just an hour ago I would've felt so happy to hear his voice, but now I was dreading this moment. It's either him or me and I know it. There is no way we're both getting out of it alive.
"Come out, I'm not with them. I would never do that to you"
Ace is talking and I recognize his voice, but his tone is corrupted, evil. He's nothing like my Ace.
"Don't trust him" Says Carter.
I know, I don't have the courage to say it, but deep down I'm aware I can't trust him anymore. Am I ready to let go of him? No, not just yet.
"Riley? Please I'm scared" It's a trap.
"They will let us both go, please. Think about your dad"
My dad, God. I haven't thought about him all night. Why am I so selfish? If I died what would happen to him? He doesn't have my mom, or anyone but me anymore. He would be alone.
"Please, trust me."
As we're hiding behind the corner I can hear his words get closer and closer. At what point will he stop waiting for me and actually come and check.
"I have to try, stay hidden. I'm really thankful you risked your life to help me, Carter. But what if he isn't lying?"
"It's too dangerous"
"You'll stay here, right? Come if I call you and only then kill him" He just nods at my words and steps back.
I slowly step out of the dark and into the light of a street lamp, he can see me.
