Queen Belladonna paced back and forth in the grand chamber of the hive, a sense of urgency in her every step. Beside her, nestled within a small violet cushioned bed, lay a fragile egg. The Queen's gaze was fixated on it, her emerald eyes filled with anticipation and worry. "Mother, what are you doing?!" cried Sundew, Belladonna's curious and mischievous young daughter. She had been observing her mother's restless behavior for quite some time now, unable to contain her curiosity any longer. "Can't you see, Sundew? This egg has to hatch today if you want a sister," Queen Belladonna replied, her voice trembling with a mix of excitement and anxiety. Sundew, a little disheartened by the thought of her mother's obsession with having another royal heir, gathered the courage to share her concerns. "Mother, it doesn't matter to me. Having a brother would be just as wonderful." Belladonna's eyes widened, and she stared at her daughter in disbelief. "But Sundew, do you not understand? It is our family's tradition that the reigning queen must have a princess as her successor. Our legacy relies on it." Rolling her eyes, Sundew let out a faint sigh. "Fine, then watch this egg until it hatches. I have more important things to do." With that, she flopped down next to the egg, resigning herself to her duty. As Sundew gazed at the egg, the moonlight poured through the translucent walls of the hive, bathing the chamber in a serene glow. She could see the three moons shining brightly upon them, their heavenly presence overseeing the ancient rituals and traditions of the hive. The hours passed in silence, save for the occasional buzzing of the bees tending to their duties throughout the hive. Sundew blinked, feeling the weight of drowsiness tugging at her eyelids. She laid her head down beside the egg, succumbing to sleep. In her dreams, Sundew found herself standing in a vast meadow, flowers of every imaginable color stretching out as far as the eye could see. Among the blossoms, a radiant figure appeared. It was a young princess, adorned in a flowing gown of gold and amethyst. Her voice was regal and soothing, like a gentle breeze. "Sundew, fear not," the princess spoke, her voice carrying with it an otherworldly wisdom. "Whether sister or brother, love and unity shall always prevail in the hive. Remember, it is not the blood that makes a family, but the bonds we forge." Sundew awoke, feeling a newfound sense of purpose and understanding. She looked down at the egg, feeling a connection she hadn't felt before. It was no longer just about fulfilling a role; it was about embracing the essence of family, love, and harmony.
