CHAPTER 3

"Well, alright, I'm bad
but then, you're no prize either
All right, I'm bad, but that's nothing new.
You say you won't love me,
I won't love you neither
Just let me remind you what I am to you"

"Who's that song about, Gram?" Olivia Gray looks up at her grandmother, who's smiling down at her granddaughter laying on the picnic rug.

"It's about one of my old boyfriends, Billy Taupe." Lucy Gray told her, brushing one of the curly, dark brown hairs out of her face with her finger. "That song is one of the reasons I am here today."

"What happened to him? Billy Taupe?"

"He suffered at the hands of the President, is all I can say really..." Lucy sighed, trying to neglect those memories she buried years ago, but they always had a way of creeping back in. "It was a different time then..."

"President? Like President Snow?" Olivia Gray questions further, not knowing the history between Lucy Gray and Coriolanus Snow.

Lucy Gray nods, as the memories of him come rushing back. "President Snow wasn't always a bad man, Peach. Power changes people. I knew Snow back when he was just a young man, trying to figure out where he belonged in this crazy world we live in."

"Did you love him?" Olivia Gray wonders, asking a question Lucy Gray wishes she could deny.

"I once believed we were written in the stars, Peach. But not every story has a happy ending..."

PRESENT TIME

Olivia Gray gasps as she wakes up from her dream that felt all too real. The warm embrace of her Grandmother's spirit and her melodic voice still ringing in her ear.

Joshua comes running in only moments after, panicked, worried to see if Olivia Gray was okay.

"Are you alright? I heard a gasp..."

Olivia nods, trying to regain her breath. "Just a bad dream."

"Another nightmare?"

"No...more like a memory."

Josh shrugs, taking a relived sigh, now knowing she's okay. "I'm glad your alright, but you really need to get ready if you want to have breakfast before training..."

Olivia nods, hopping out of bed to grab her training clothes before heading down to the facility.

"Okay, we have six more days left of training before the interviews, so we should really work on our weaknesses, that way we'll be less vulnerable in the arena." Josh explains as they walk through the doors, entering into the centre.

"I'm going to work more on my physical combat..." Olivia tells him, "I can throw knives in my sleep but if I'm forced to fight with my bare fists then I'm going to need a bit of extra training because I'm rusty to say the least..."

Josh nods, separating himself from Olivia as they split off into different sections.

Olivia notices Mags, standing by the fishing section. She walks over, greeting the woman with a small hello. When Mags turns to stare up at the Olivia, she freezes. The look she gives Olivia almost makes her feel uneasy, like she recognised her, but not in a good way.

"Lucy?" The lady said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"No, Ma'am. I'm Olivia Gray." Olivia told her, confused how Mags remembered her grandmother, seeing every trace of her was removed from the Capitol.
