The Assistant's Dilemma

Ch.9

I'm still at the building sitting in his office. He's been at the meeting for about an hour now. I been going back and forth with the work I need to get done. I do some work and then watch some TikTok as I take a break.

As I'm typing up an email his actual phone rings. I decide to just not worry about but that's until it starts ringing again. However I continue to focus on my work.

About 2 minutes later it rings again and now I'm curious. Maybe it's some type of emergency. I set my stuff down before going over to his desk. I look down and read "Lex"

Alexis , his ex wife. I watch the phone ring until stops and a text from her pops up

"Are we gonna talk or what?"

I'm guessing about them , I don't know. Then another message pops up.

"I miss you G"

I'm not sure why they divorced it's none of my business even though I do kinda wanna know. They could have ended on good terms but the way he be talking about her or the way he wants to make her jealous does not seem good.

I wait and see if anymore messages pop up but I jump from the sound of the door opening and him walking in. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing" I answer and he walks over and grabs his phone.

"Were you looking in my phone?" He smirks

"No no , I was just ..... looking out this window" I look at the window behind his desk. He lets out a short laugh.

"Right right" he stands next to me to look out the window "i for sure thought you left by now"

"Oh no I'm still here , you kinda told me not to leave"

"I didn't expect that meeting to take an hour , I was thinking 30 minutes"

"Plus my friend is staying at my house and she's not really the working type, it was probably good for me to get work done here"

"The friend that had you drinking and made you late to work?" He says and I see him look at me out the corner of my eye.

I look over at him to make eye contact. "I made the decision to drink so it's not her fault"

"Maybe she's a bad influence on you?" He suggest. "You told me before you had a best friend that liked to party more than she should" he remembered I'm shocked. "Is this that same friend"

We look at each other for a couple of seconds "yeah , she's my best friend"

"As a best friend don't you think she wouldn't put your job in jeopardy?"

"She's not a bad person"

"I didn't say that" he crosses his arms. "With previous assistants of mine if they were late then they were fired"

"So then why didn't you fire me?"

"I told you , I enjoy working with you" he says "but don't think you can just be late and not face any consequences, eventually you will be fired because of it"

"Well yeah I know and I'm not"

As we stand there his phone rings and he looks behind him. I catch a glance of it and it's his ex wife again. "Hold on" he answers the phone and I go back to my seat.

"What do you want?" He says

About a minute goes by before he puts his phone on the desk. "That was Alexis she has the nerve to say she misses me and wants to meet up, is she fucking crazy?"

He shakes his head in disbelief I guess. "She said she's downstairs and wants to see me , what is wrong with her?"

"Am I suppose to answer that?"

"No but you can come with me" he walks over to me and puts his hand out. I look at back and fourth between him and his hand. "Courtney just grab my hand"

I grab his hand and he takes me out the office "my stuff is in there"

"You'll be back up don't worry"

We get into the elevator as he wraps his arm around my shoulder "no ones around you don't have to be on me" I tell him

"Shhh" he just shushed me...... "act normal and just relax" the elevator door opens and we reach the 1st floor.

I see Alexis talking to Kim at the receptionist desk. "Come on" he leads me over to them.

"Mr.Ford and ..... Ms.Rhodes" Kim says.

"We'll be back , if my packages come just have them taken up to my office please" he says

"Of course"

I accidentally make eye contact with Alexis. She looks pissed like super pissed.

"Ready to go Darling?"

Darling? LORD . I didn't know pet names were apart of this. That was hot. Darling? I like that.
It catches me off guard though. "Uhh yeah"

"See you in a bit" He says before taking me outside.

"Where are we going? My things are in your office still"

"Courtney ..... I know and you will get them" he says as we walk up to his car. He opens the passenger door for me and I just look at him. "Get In please" I do end up getting in and he gets in on the drivers side.

"Where are we going?"

"You ask a lot of questions you know that?"

"I'm just curious"

"Where you wanna go?"

I shrug my shoulders "Well I don't know"
"It's only 12:10 soooooo"

"Why don't we go shopping?"

"Shopping?"

"Yeah, next Sunday night is the company dinner , we all go out to some fancy , expensive restaurant around This time"

"Okay so what does that mean?

"Me and you are going together"

"Together?"

"Mhm , we are doing this fake relationship thing so it would be best" he says "but you need to look good"

"Good? Are you saying I never look good"

He shakes his head "no im not saying that you always tend to look decent"

My eyes widened and he laughs "decent?!"

"I'm only joking with you Courtney" I roll my eyes and sit back in the chair "take a joke"

"I took the joke" I nod

"What I meant was we need to look formal , I have no issue doing that I mean look at me" he points at himself "but I'm not sure what you have in your closet so I'm fully willing to buy you whatever you need"

"I could just buy my own stuff"

"But I'm offering to buy it so take the fucking offer"

"No need to get rude"

He starts his car "I know just the store"
