Caera Denoir POV

The time to make our presence known has finally arrived. I was standing to the south of the military base in the dense forest of Vechor, along with Sevren and Lyra. We were currently standing by for Callum, who was presently on a scout.

After Sevren and I told the High Bloods our stories with Callum and Lyra, two retainers backing our claim, they swore their allegiance to our cause. Now, after the rebellion is revealed, the High Bloods will give us their public support, and hopefully, more will join our cause.

I looked over my shoulder to see about one thousand of our soldiers waiting behind us. We knew we were outnumbered, but definitely not overpowered. With Callum and Lyra with us, we held the advantage.

We were well hidden behind the thick trees and the cover of darkness. There was a new moon out tonight, providing zero ambient light. And with the Scythes meeting with the High Sovereign, it was the perfect time to attack. Scythe Seris had planned this out brilliantly, which, knowing her, shouldn't be surprising.

The sound of wind above me caught my attention, and I looked up. My gaze fell on Callum as he landed beside me. Our gazes met, and he gave me a quick smile before he looked at Sevren with a severe expression.

"They have guards stationed along the walls with ballistae and catapults. However, they're not loaded. Most of the soldiers are at the barracks in the northwest section of the base. Their armory is in the northeast section of the base. The command building is stationed to the north. The catapults and ballistae along the wall aren't loaded," Callum reported.

Sevren eyes narrowed, seeming to be in thought as he hummed curiously, "They're not ready for any type of attack."

"Why should they be?" Lyra scoffed as she crossed her arms and eyed the base sternly. "The war has been taking place in Dicathen all this time. The soldiers here have become complacent." Lyra smirked with a sense of pride, "It'll be their undoing."

"Agreed," Callum said with a nod. "This ambush will echo throughout all of Alacrya. It'll definitely make our presence known and hopefully convince others to join us."

"Good. We need everyone to know of our existence. Of our cause to free Alacrya," Sevren began before he looked at the three of us. "Listen up. Callum and Lyra, I want you two to fly ahead when we advance. Destroy the front gate and take out the soldiers on top of the wall. Provide overhead security and kill any advancing soldiers as they try to stop us from entering the base. Once inside the base, Callum, you will head to the armories and ensure the soldiers don't get weapons. Lyra, head to the barracks and stop the reinforcements before they can join the battle. The rest of us will advance on the command building. Once we have the command building and their defenses are in ruins, they'll have no choice but to surrender."

"Understood," Callum said seriously with a nod.

Lyra stepped up to Sevren and gently caressed his face, giving him a warm smile. Though, I could see some concern in her eyes. "You be careful," Lyra began softly. "I know you're a good fighter, but please, be careful."

Sevren returned her smile and gave a small chuckle, "I will. You be careful, too."

My lips curved as I watched them lean forward and share a deep, affectionate kiss. My thoughts went to Callum, and my gaze flicked to him, seeing his eyes were locked on me.

Callum smiled and blushed when our eyes locked. I smiled back with my face feeling slightly warm. His eyes flicked to my lips, and his blush deepened. My face felt warmer, with thoughts of kissing Callum flooding my mind. Thoughts I've been having a lot recently.
