The key to surviving a surgical internship is denial. We deny that we're tired, we deny that we're scared, we deny how badly we want to succeed, and most importantly, we deny that we're in denial.

Two days after Cristina's emergency surgery and after another long sixteen hour shift, Eddie found herself accompanying Meredith, George, and Izzie to the Emerald City Bar. She had her typical order of soda and French fries while her friends were getting their usual round of drinks and a few other bar foods.
"I don't know. When I left, Cristina said she was ok." George explained to his fellow interns, as Izzie slipped into her seat after returning from the bar with her first drink of the night.
"Nobody goes what she went through and is totally over it by now." Izzie said, shocked about how fine Cristina was being.
"Cristina can." George said highly impressed, she would make an amazing surgeon someday.
"She's fine." Meredith promised Izzie.
Just because she wasn't sobbing and sulking and eating her weight in Rocky Road, didn't mean that Cristina was okay. She was just processing her hurt and liked to do that in her own time. And, until then, she'd deny what she felt until she was blue in the face.
No prodding from Izzie or her mother would make Cristina burst anytime before she is ready. All it did was make her irritable.
"Too fine. She's cold." Izzie denied.
"No, she's hardcore. She's got ice in her veins. She does what she has to do to get through it." George explained.
"She lost a baby. She lost a fallopian tube and she's acting like she doesn't even care. She's all "Hello, I'm totally fine person." Ok, she's my friend too but she's acting like she has no emotions or warmth, like she's missing a soul." Izzie complained as she took one of Eddie's French fries, which caused the pregnant girl to glare at the former model.
"Get your own." Eddie muttered, as she moved the fries away from her.
"God, she's gonna make a great surgeon." George added with admiration.
"George!" Izzie said shocked that George wasn't agreeing with her.
"It's true. You show no weakness, you make it to the top." George said as he took a sip of his beer.
"Some people just keep their feelings to themselves." Eddie said as she popped another French fry into her mouth.
Eddie clocked when Meredith noticed McDreamy entering the bar. He didn't seem to see them as he made his way to the bar and sat down next to Bailey. Eddie kicked her leg gently, and Meredith gave her a small smile.
