ALEX(V.O):  Christopher McKay's father demanded excellence.

For the first time we have Alex narrating, which is odd but is a welcomed surprise. In the past we see a young McKay who looks like he's 11 reciting the words to "America"

YOUNG MCKAY: Although she feeds me bread of bitterness, and sinks into my throat her tiger's tooth,  stealing my breath of life, I will confess, I love this cultured hell that tests my youth.

McKay's dad Fredrick stands a few feet away from his son with a clipboard and whistled like he was testing something on his son.

FREDERICK: However strong you think you are, you are stronger.

Frederick blows his whistle and McKay starts to dash back and forth from one point to another.

Again, again, again, again, and again and as McKay dose so he continues to speak

FREDERICK: Let's go, let's go.

YOUNG MCKAY: Her vigor flows like tides into my blood, giving me strength erect against her hate, Her bigness sweeps my being...like a flood. Yet, as a rebel fronts a king in state...

Young McKay then dose burpees over and over until his face his covered in sweat, after he's done Frederick then blows his whistle and McKay moves on to his next workout, McKay does the jumping rope with is feat hitting the rope a few times then is dad blows his whistle again, McKay then moves on to sit ups and when he's done Frederick blows his whistle again.

FREDERICK: There you go. Up, up.

MCKAY: I stand within her walls, without a shred, of terror, malice, not a word of jeer...

FREDERICK: However strong you think you are, you are stronger.

Mckay gets up he throws up on the grass but instead of worry his dad looks at McKay like he had just fallen over.

MCKAY: Darkly I gaze into the days ahead, and see her might, and grin at wonders there. Beneath the touch of time's unerring hand, like priceless treasures sinking in the sand.

As McKay finishes his workout his dad puts his hand on McKay's shoulder with a proud smile on his face a junior football team plays in the distance

FREDERICK: Great work, son. Get some water. Get ready for practice.

McKay dose as he's told and approaches the football field and starts to play.

QUARTERBACK: Ready. Set. Hut.

ALEX(V.O):  As much as he hated his father for the pressure he put on him, he knew it was because he was special, because he had a gift, because he saw something in him that could one day lead to greatness.

McKay then runs flawlessly on he filed and dodge's like the wind, but at one game McKay was tackled quickly which made his couch angry.

COUCH: Are you kidding me?

As the two boys get up the boy mutters something to him we can't seem to hear it but it was clear it got to him, McKay pulls his helmet off and immediately clocks the cornerback. As both teams pour onto the field the referee pulls McKay away from the boy.

REFEREE: Hey! You're out of the game.

Back at home McKay cries as his father talks to him about both his actions and the game

FREDERICK: You get emotional, you lose. You get angry, you lose.

MCKAY: Dad, he called me...

FREDERICK: I don't give a good goddamn. Why do you think he's talking to you in the first place?
