We see a 6 year old Cassie who wearing heart sunglasses and a riding a barbie convertible. she takes off her sunglasses and sees that her dad Gus, is talking to the other moms like it's nothing.
RUE(V.O): Cassie's dad was really handsome. The kind of handsome that made people treat him differently. Her mom used to get really upset at him for flirting.
Suze also sees this and gets pissed and leaves in a huff. But Gus still talks to the other moms while Cassie was on Gus's shoulders.
RUE(V.O): Which wasn't fair. It wasn't his fault. He really loved her. He really loved them all.
As Cassie is about to blow out her candles, she looks to her right and sees that her parents are arguing which makes her sad, and as she turns to the the cake and blows and makes a wish.
RUE(V.O): Her dad always wanted her to become a professional ice skater.
Cassie opens a present and sees that it's a pair of ice skates which brings a smile to both Gus and Cassie.
CASSIE: Wow. Thank you!
GUS: Aw, happy birthday, kiddo.
The two then hug. At a skate rink Cassie skates flawlessly and shows great skill.
RUE(V.O): And for a while, she thought she might. She was a natural. But her dad couldn't afford lessons, so he stopped encouraging her. When she hit puberty, her mother and her became best friends.
Cassie who's 13 now spins in her room and looks at herself in the mirror in all white lace-font romper with Suze in the background looking at her daughter.
SUZE: You're an angel.
CASSIE: I feel like a big baby.
A 12 year old Lexi laughs as she sits on her bed.
SUZE: Cassie, woman to woman, hmm? You're perfect.
As the girls walk down the stairs Gus sits on a chair drinking a beer and looks at Cassie.
GUS: Holy moly, look at you.
CASSIE: What?
GUS: You're gonna be a real heart breaker. Trust me.
The family comes back to the barbecue outside and rejoin the family reunion.
GUS: You remember Uncle Ted?
UNCLE TED: Oh, boy, look at you. All grown up. Come on, give me a hug. You really filled out.
As Uncle Ted hugs Cassie he cups the side of her back which makes her a little uncomfortable. But as the day went by Cassie met her other Uncles.
GUY #1: Sassy Cassie. Come here.
She eventually meets her grandad.
GUY #2: I bet you got all the boys wrapped around your finger. Boop.
Cassie's grandad booped Cassie on the nose. Both chuckle softly at the exstage.
RUE(V.O): Their family wasn't perfect. Her mom had, you know, some issues.
As Suze dances a little drunk her kids watch from a short distance away.
LEXI: Oh, my God.
RUE(V.O): And her dad struggled to keep a steady income.
As Gus was handed a check from a family member, he notices his wife dancing and gets angry and pulls her away. After the night the family gets in the car and begins to drive away.
SUZE: Fuck you.
GUS: This is my family--
RUE(V.O): And they fought. In the way all parents kind of fight. Except for the night before she started ninth grade.
