HER MIND FOUGHT about the possible reasons why she was being called as she walked with her sister to the Council's meeting.

Rhavena was never asked to these meetings, and the times she had been in the past, she had ignored them all. But her father had been quite emphatic that she must be present today, and even if Rhavena didn't want to see the faces of half the people who would be there, curiosity —and her sister's scolding— got the better of her.

The Targaryen sisters entered the room and stood to one side, their father standing at the window, not even turning as they entered. Rhavena raised a curious eyebrow when she saw not only Otto Hightower enter, but his daughter as well, Rhavena scanned the Lady from head to toe, then approached her sister's ear and whispered discreetly into it.

"What is she doing here?"

When Rhaenyra noticed Alicent's presence as well, she was a little slow to answer her sister.

"I don't know, what father wants to tell us must be very important."

When all the Lords were finally seated, Viserys finally turned to address those present.

"Good morning, my lords," her father began, and both Targaryen sisters gave each other a subtle look of suspicion. "I have decided to take a new wife."

Rhavena's heart skipped a beat at those words. She was not at all surprised, she knew it was only a matter of time before this happened, she and Rhaenyra had spoken of it several times before. But that didn't mean at all that it didn't fill her with melancholy and inexplicable fury to hear that the moment had come so quickly.

She could still hear her mother's laughter in the corridors, smell the scent of her hair when she slept, see her smile every time she closed her eyes. Rhavena missed her, terribly, and she knew Rhaenyra missed her too.

But still, both sisters, despite the pain, had to accept it.
When Viserys looked to his daughters, perhaps for support to carry on, Rhaenyra was the first to nod. But when Viserys saw his youngest daughter's pained, lost expression, he could not continue.

Rhavena was trying, really trying, to control the feelings that only reminded her of the loss of her mother. She looked at her father, and saw in the king's eyes the uncertainty and heaviness that the decision had taken on the man. He didn't like the idea of someone taking Aemma's place either, for he had loved her, and still loved her dearly, Rhavena always knew.

So she nodded too, for that love they both shared, and had lost.

That gave Viserys what he needed to continue, and from looking at his daughters, he turned to look at the rest of the men.
