Pt11. Tag Team

The dark of night encroaches into your respite, the embers of the fire glowing gently in the darkness.

Twigs snap in the silence, an approaching threat hunting you in the cold. Your ears perk up quickly as you crack your eyes open, staying still while you scanned the area. The moonless sky threatened to leave you blind but it didn't matter, the faint movements in the dark easily traceable to your trained eyes.

We're already surrounded...
You wait patiently for your pursuers to get as close as they intended to before making a move. You needed to know how many were here for you.

Robotic hydraulics puff and grind, metallic footprints stomping through the grass. You can hear at least five sets of footsteps behind you, encroaching still.

-Robots of some kind...?

Eggman.

Alright (y/n), think. The fox needs to get woken up before we can escape... He'll be dazed so I'll have to fend off an entire assault while down an arm and exhausted for at least a minute... I'm probably too tired to use Phase speed too...

The footsteps encroach closer, even your mind moving slower than it usually did.

You feel your heart race a little more, mild panic threatening to grip your mind...
COME ON (Y/N)! Analysis, QUICKLY!
Identify the variables-! Umm.. They're approaching close range, and a lot of them so either they don't have range at the moment, or they have others hidden that have range. Their footsteps... are... NORMAL..! So... They weren't trying to sneak up on us..? A patrol maybe? But a patrol would have ranged robots in it, it would have to! A long range kill option that they didn't use.. so they were intending to capture as a first priority. Meaning that information was to be extracted when captured... From who though? The fox? Or perhaps he was aiming for what I've learned during our time apart? No, the doctor has no further need for me... Something with the fox...

They're practically on you as your mind grasps at straws to develop a game plan. Nothing felt right though, you were too muddled to think clearly!

FUCK!

You lunge toward the remains of the fire, kicking embers back at your assailants. The dim red chunks illuminate their bodies as they buzzed in response to your sudden movements.

"Tails! Enemies!" You reach your hand back and shake him as you crouch low, your eyes scanning the area for any signs of motion.

He jolts up, his pulse racing as adrenaline was shot into his veins, "Huh-! What's happening!?"

You detect a motion at your side, kicking a leg out as you connect with metal and push back off it, sliding back in the grass as you hear metal on metal clanking, the robot falling over. You bare your teeth as your fur stands on end. Another rush forward as metal hands contact your arms. You wince as you flip into the air, twisting a leg around your good arm and propelling it around, swinging the bots into each other. You stumble back at the recoil, your injured arm speared with pain.
"We have to go! Now!" You back up closer to Tails, trying to keep him covered while surveying the incoming machines. More of them charge you, gripping your tail while a second aimed a punch to your jaw. You stumble slightly as a third grabs your bad arm, tugging on it firmly and jerking you to the side.

You howl in pain as your face meets the grassy ground, another robot immediately jumping on you and pushing down into your spine. You could feel the glass shard cutting deeper as a few tears welled up in your eyes.
"GHA-! FUCK!" The razor sharp pain finally cuts through your iron defense, your body feeling feeble while you were pinned. The noises continue spilling out of your mouth as you were jostled, your body getting twisted and pulled into unnatural angles. It was too much, too many injuries back to back to hold down the cries. Your voice becoming choked up while they handled you roughly, yanking and pulling on your limbs as they started to carry you away from your campsite.
