JESY'S POV
Jade's theory of there being a building was definitely right. After maybe twenty minutes of walking we came to a clearing with no trees and smack in the middle was a huge tower. A freaking tower! The red button to shut down everything had to be in there. But there was a problem; the tower was guarded with those things. Two of them were guarding the entrance and from what I could see four others were patrolling the surrounding grounds.
"Okay any ideas on how we can get past them?" I whispered to the girls. We were currently concealed in the trees nearest to the clearing. This was going to be tricky because the moment we stepped out of this cover those things will be on us like . . . something on something else. You get what I mean.
"Em . . . maybe we could walk the perimeter of this clearing to figure out if there is another entrance and observe their patrolling patterns." Jade said sniffing.
"Um I guess that might work but it sounds time consuming." I said wondering how Jade comes up with such logical yet complicated ideas. She was for sure the brain out of us four.
"I think that we should probably create a diversion and lead them all away from the door so that we can get in." Leigh-Anne said. I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to her before. It was so strange. She seemed to be in so much distress before but now it was like nothing had happened.
"I suppose that might work but what kind of diversion?" I asked as I tried to come up with something.
"Umm . . . I think I can distract them while you guys get in . . ." Leigh-Anne said.
"Woah, I think we should stick together babes." Perrie suddenly butted in.
I had to agree to that. "Yeah we can't afford for any of us to get hurt or separated from the others." I said hoping that I didn't sound as scared as I really was at the thought of Leigh-Anne going out on her own.
"But I know how they work. I can keep them distracted for a while and then get in behind you guys." She was frowning now. "Jade tell them that I can do this." She looked to Jade.
"Erm . . . well we did figure out how to . . . em . . . elude them." Jade shrugged. "But Leigh I'm not sure that you should do this on your own."
Leigh-Anne blew out a sigh. "Okay guys listen up. I know that you're worried but this is the fastest way to get in there. . . And I've already wasted so much of our time . . ." She mumbled that last bit then said; "I think it's only fair that I do this . . . alone."
I was a bit taken aback. "Leigh-Anne Pinnock you have not wasted anyone's time. We love you and we want you to be safe. We will think of something else." I spoke with as much authority and finality as I could muster. "Suggestions for a plan are now open." I simply refused to let anything happen to any of these girls. Not while I saw myself as the leader.
"So I'm guessing that we should try to observe the patrolling pattern and come up with a way to get past it?" Jade said meekly.
Perrie and I both nodded but Leigh-Anne folded her arms and frowned.
We started watching and noting the movements of those things. The ones at the door stayed there without moving while the four that we could see patrolling moved in pairs of two around the tower. While one pair circled around the actual tower the other would circle the perimeter of the clearing as close to the trees as possible without actually stepping into the woods. When that pair came close to us we would hold our breath and become perfectly still behind the trees hoping that they couldn't smell our fear.
After ten minutes I was bored and waiting for Jade to come up with a plan. According to the watch on Jade's wrist we had about an hour and a half left to shut this thing down and we hadn't even gotten into the tower yet.
A sudden rustling of leaves beside me made me nearly jump out of my skin. When I turned I realized that Leigh-Anne was moving away from us. I hissed out her name trying to call her back but she completely ignored me and started running. A surge of panic went through me and I turned back to Perrie and Jade who were staring intently at the pair of guards that were now moving our way.
"Guys . . . she's gone." I whispered to them, unable to move as they neared us.
LEIGH-ANNE'S POV
I was running as quickly as possible. There was no time to waste. I had to distract these things so that the others could get inside. Earlier I was so frightened and dreading this that I lost it. I was terrified and shaking and I couldn't move. Then the next thing I know is I'm throwing everything I've ever eaten up. That's how scared I was. I could feel that something bad was about to happen and I ended up wasting our time. But not now. No. Despite the fright that I felt settling in my stomach I just ran.
I ran all the way to the other side of the tower still concealed by the thick trees. I took up a stone and prayed silently that the plan I'd formulated from the time Jesy asked for ideas would work. My hand was shaking and I had to swallow to stop myself from gagging even though there was nothing left for me to throw up. I hurled the stone straight at the pair of electrici-warriors that were walking around the tower.
They both stopped moving and turned in my direction. I took a deep breath as they started coming my way. I moved a bit then took up another stone. This time I threw it straight at the tower with all the force I could muster. The connection made a loud clanking sound and it wasn't before long that both pairs of things were coming my way. I dived back deeper into the trees and started running trying not to trip over the roots sticking up from the ground.
I looked behind me aware that I still needed to get rid of the guards at the door. I wondered if the glowing orbs these things had for eyes could see me clearly. I swerved out of the way of one tree hoping that one of them would knock itself out but almost ended up falling in the process. I heard a thud and internally rejoiced, thankful that this tactic still worked.
I suddenly turned swiftly up in the direction of the tower again careful not to go near where I'd left the girls. I stopped for a second to pick up a stone then hurled it straight at the two that were guarding the entrance. My aim was pretty good apparently because the stone hit right in the middle of them. I had come right into the open to throw it and they instantly saw me and started coming after me.
My lungs were on fire as I dived back into the woods with all six -or well possibly five -of those things following me. I hoped that the girls would be smart enough to just get inside and not come after me. I was doing pretty well for a while heading straight at trees and then moving at the last second but my dreadful feeling was creeping around the back of my mind and I knew that I was about to be the victim of a series of unfortunate events. I consoled myself and was able to keep going by constantly chanting that it was for the girls and that if I could keep these things occupied for long enough they'd be able to get inside. The bad thing was that inside was just another place where horrible things were waiting to happen and this time I might not get back in time to help them.
* * *
Three. That was the number of electrici-warriors that I managed to knock out with the help of the trees. I supposed that it wasn't so bad given that I'm just one girl. I was even lucky to get that many. But I knew my luck was running out. I suddenly tripped over a branch and tumbled to the dirt ground in a heap.
The three that were still functioning took no time in catching up to me and surrounding me. This was probably it. I gulped and tried to steel myself against the pain I knew I was about to be introduced to. Two of them pulled out tasers and one took out what looked like a spear. This is the real thing, I thought just before I felt a horrendous amount of electricity course through my body. I let out a scream so horribly piercing that even though I was in a completely separate agony my ears felt like they were going to bleed from it.
