Ellie POV

There has to be a way out.

I thought as my eyes darted around the cell,

(Y/N) gained consciousness as I paced around, groaning in pain as she held her head, I knelt in front of her reaching my battered hand over and moving the hair from her face

"Hey.."
my voice shook as I faked a smile, trying to be brave for her

"I'm going to find a way outta here. Just- stay awake for me okay?"
I whispered,

carefully wiping the blood that dripped down the side of her head with my sleeve, before returning to my search for a way out.

I tried stacking buckets to climb up to a window

It was locked.

Next, I attempted picking the screws holding the door of the cage closed, but my eyes caught sight of something beyond the bars..something horrific..

a human ear.

I backed away retreating to (Y/N), who sat against the brick wall her head in her hands groaning in pain

I could feel sick come up my throat as I fought to keep it down, coughing onto my clenched fist, my eyes unable to waver from the disembodied body part

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw David enter carrying a meal tray. He must have noticed my terrified expression because the next thing he did was let out a sigh as he sat in front of the cell door,

Before sliding the tray under the cage, with two mugs, a bowl of meat and soup.

"For what it's worth, this is just deer meat. I swear."

"You're gonna chop us up into little pieces?" I asked quietly, my voice shaking in fear as I stared into his ice-cold eyes

"I'd rather not. Please, just tell me your names."

I kept my mouth shut, gazing over at (Y/N) who had raised her head upon David's entrance, looking past her dazed expression I could see the pure fear emitting from her

All I wanted to do was hold her in my arms and tell her it was going to be okay...

but I wasn't even sure if it would be...

"If you wanna judge me—" David began

"Judge you?! YOU'RE EATING PEOPLE, YOU SICK FUCK!" I snapped,

getting to my feet and running forward, kicking the food he had put into the cage, spilling it all over the floor

David jumped from his chair dodging the food, I shook the bars in rage glaring at him before backing away

"Yes. There are only a few of us that know. But I would have told you two. Sooner or later. I guess sooner."

"You're an animal."

"Well, yes, we all are. That's sorta of the point, It was a last resort. You think it doesn't shame me? But what was I supposed to do? Let them starve? These people who put their lives in my hands, who expect me to keep them safe, who love me?"

"Yeah, maybe."
I scoffed in disbelief

"You don't believe that. I don't think your friend would either. Didn't he take another man's life to save yours?"

"He was defending himself!!."

"He was defending you two." David corrected, leaning towards the cage. "But you knew that."
