Though Jovie wasn't the brightest blonde in the bunch, she could clearly tell Remus was keeping something from her.
Every time she'd come to his room to check on him he would either be gone or his head would be in a stack of papers. He wouldn't tell her why he was so stressed, he wouldn't tell her anything. Everything was short answers.
"Where have you been?"
"With Harry."
"How're you feeling?"
"Fine."
So naturally she had been planning to catch him in his lie. Which is why she happened to be downstairs cleaning when Remus ran down from his room.
Jovie shot him a look, "Rem what's going on?"
The man didn't respond, his eyes trained on a piece of parchment in his hands as he tried to slip into his shoes without looking.
"Rem answer me, you've been acting strange."
Remus shook his head, "I have to go, I'll be back soon."
Jovie put down the cloth she was using to wipe the counter, making her way over to her friend. She placed her hands on her hips and tried to peer at the strangely familiar parchment, Remus snatching it away.
"Remus! What is it?"
"I-I'm sorry I have to go-"
"Let me come! What's going on?!"
"Jovie!" Remus whipped to the blonde, grabbing her shoulder, "you can't come! Stay here!"
He looked panicked, rushing out of the apartment, not even stopping to grab his coat. Jovie fumed, grabbing her coat and hat.
Remus had never lied to her and he wasn't about to start.
* * *
The shrieking shack.
Jovie stared up the stairs, running her hand along the rotten wood of the railing as the wind whistled through the house. Why was Remus coming here?
This was the place he used to come with James, Sirius, and Peter on full moons. They would lock him upstairs while he transformed, then all come back and set up camp for the night, they even let Jovie come once.
Jovie slowly started up the stairs, the wood creaking beneath her weight. She could hear people's voices coming from upstairs and her heart began to race. What exactly was going on? And why did Remus look so panicked?
"Well well sirius looking rather ragged aren't we, finally the flesh reflects the madness within."
Her heart dropped.
Sirius?
She slowly creeped towards the door, the shouts getting louder. Could it be true? Was Sirius finally back? The only thing separating them was this door.
"Wait-"
"I did my waiting! Twelve years of it! In azkaban!"
She pushed open the door, her hands squeezed into fists. Her eyes widened and her heart swelled. He was right there. He was standing right there.
Sirius black.
The love of her life.
He looked so different.
She felt tears well in her eyes, "Sirius?"
The man glanced over at her and his heart stopped. He took her in, looking her up and down. She looked just as beautiful as the day he met her.
Jovie's heart hurt.
This was the first guy to make her heart flutter. He cried when he saw her on their wedding day. He was the father to their child. Casanova looked just like him.
But this didn't seem like the same man.
His eyes seemed...empty.
Sirius seemed to snap out of his trance, "you- you aren't supposed to be here! I need to kill him!"
Jovie looked towards Harry and his friends. They were covered in dirt and Ron seemed to be injured. Harry looked scared and ... angry?
The blonde turned to Remus, "what's going on? What happened?"
"Expelliarmus!"
