Going back to the pack house was torture. Everyone is frantically trying to come up with plans and are talking about all the things they want to do to Alexander's family. They don't care that he wasn't involved, they want revenge. All I want is to be back in my little Alex bubble out of town. My dad looks around as I enter the door, his senses are heightened at the moment without his mate and he's sniffing around for me.

"Jason! Where the hell have you been," he looks worried more than anything. Like his whole life was taken away for a few hours. Though before I can answer he's sniffing me, he picks up my hands and takes a long drag of air. "Have you been galavanting with those vampires?" His words come out harsh, cutting into me like a million knives. At that sentence every pack member in this room looked around at me.

"I–"

"Son. What have you been doing with the vampires?" His voice is stern, no longer infused with anger but instead something I can't quite place. My mind reels about all the different ways I can lie to him. It needs to be believable.

As I can't tell the truth, I try to go somewhat close to what could've happened, "I went to scope out the vampire's home. Don't worry I was careful and no one noticed me. I went around the perimeters of their house seeing if they had anything that mum could be trapped in."

"If you didn't come into contact with a vampire then how do you smell like one?" Okay now his voice has some anger.

I don't want to throw Alex under the bus and I don't want to come out to my dad, "Okay so I did come into contact with one vampire. He goes to my school and I questioned him on what he knows. Yes it was stupid but he told me it was his parents and he had no idea."

Dad gives me a weird look before nodding, "Alright our search will mostly track the parents. You did good son but that was risky, though true Alpha material. Go take a shower, I can't deal with the stench."

"Yes sir."

I think I need to tell Micheal about Alexander. It's killing me not being able to say I've found my mate but after yesterday that's an even worse idea than it would've been before. Walking through the school halls I head to the sixth form study centre. Knowing Micheal is going to be there makes me want to tell him more. That's when I smell my mate next to me. Smiling, I look over to him, "Free study too."

"Yep," his smile lights up his whole face and I wonder what he would've looked like as a human. Vampires have improved looks when they turn but by the looks of Alex he would've already been drop dead gorgeous. Seeing him completely takes away my thoughts of Micheal.

"Hey, how about we don't go to the study room?" I ask, turning slightly to Alex.

"Okay, you lead the way." He nudges me softly and walks alongside me. He's far enough away that if the Rugby guys see they shouldn't think I'm with him. Or might assume I'm trying to keep an eye on him.

Behind the rugby fields on the side that doesn't have the forest has even more fields. The expansive green leads out for miles so there's a flimsy fence to try and keep students out. For the most part people can't be bothered to come here in September because it might be muddy but I've never cared. We make a pitstop at the PE cupboard and I steal a mat. Luckily the class is indoors today so there's no one around to see. Then I lead him far away into the field so no one can see us even if people do head out.

Laying down the mat, I sit down waiting for him to follow my lead. Alex is now sitting across looking at me. It reminds me of when we were in the alcove, so scared of what could happen if we told people. Though it was only a few days ago everything feels so different. Now the thing most on my mind is my mother and how to get her back. Instead of the anxiety inducing ball that previously came with Alexander, he is like my little glimmer of joy powering me through.
