This is my first Rise of the Guardians fanfiction and I'm so glad I'm finally writing it after two requests to make one. This is for @Jaymoonjaybriar and @RosieFallis. Thank you both for giving me ideas to write this.
.....
His name is Jack Frost. How did he know that? The moon told him so. For a while, that was the only thing the moon ever told him. And for 300 years that's all Jack knew. That, and how to have fun. He knew how to get kids to smile. Knew how to get the darkest of people to laugh.
Then one day, everything changed. The Man in the Moon, Manny, chose Jack Frost to be a Guardian and a protector of children when Pitch Black threatened the children with fear. The current Guardians, with the help of Jack, defeated Pitch and sent him back where he belonged.
Jack finally had believers and a family. North had given Jack a place to stay at the North Pole which Jack, at first, refused. 300 years of being invisible and unseen was what Jack was used to. He wasn't used to the...hospitality and kindness of others. But North got Jack to stay. And the Guardians's monthly meetings turned into weekly visits to the North Pole.
Without even knowing it, Jack had gotten the Guardians closer. He was their glue. Tooth, Bunny, North, and Sandy treated Jack as one of their own and they all took care of each other.
Things were better.
So why did Jack still feel unwanted?
That's what he wondered. Every day. That's what he was wondering as he flew with the Wind and felt the cold, crisp breeze sweep through his frosty white hair. His staff safe in hand and his blue hoodie blowing in the wind.
"Take me to the lake," Jack told the Wind. Even with his new room at the North Pole, the lake where he was reborn into Jack Frost was, and would always be, his first and forever home. Jack remembered the long nights of falling asleep to the sound of children laughing and playing in the town. The nights he spent wondering why no one saw him. Why no one believed in him.
Jake's bare feet hit the cold ice as the Wind set him down on the frozen surface of the lake. He muttered a quick thanks to the wind and walked along the ice, smiling as frost licked at the places his feet touched. It never got old.
Jack rested his wood staff on his shoulder. The same staff that he'd saved his sister with. He walked on the very lake he'd died in.
Died.
He still hadn't told the Guardians about what he'd learned about his past. The fact that he had a family. A sister, a mother, a house, friends, a school, and an actual life. He'd seen his past life flash through his mind in a matter of seconds. Jack used to be the same trouble maker he was today, minus the ice powers. His father left him, his mother and sister when he was only thirteen. His sister was four.
Jackson Overland had been his name. His sister was Mary and he protected her. He saved her life. And that's what killed him.
Jackson Overland got in trouble a lot. Just like Jack did with the Guardians or when he would throw an occasional snowball at Bunny just for the fun of it. Jack learned, with his memories, that he used to get bullied by some kids at his school. They beat him up once and he made Mary promise not to tell their mom. Of course, she found out anyway. He missed her caring eyes. The way she looked over his bruises and kissed him goodnight.
But overall, Jack was glad to have his memories. To know that he had once belonged somewhere. He did now but still felt on the outside of things. He couldn't help but have small feelings of hate towards the Guardians for leaving him alone for 300 years. But at the same time, Jack hadn't given them the chance to apologize. The topic had been brought up a couple times. They tried to talk to Jack about those 300 years but he would shut down the topic. He didn't want to remember those times when he knew nothing but his name. That he was forgotten and unseen. Why remember those times when the present was all he needed?
