Third Person's Perspective
“There’s still two days before the school start. How do you want to spend your time?” Dovey asked as though she didn’t make a list of the things that Lyanna could do here for the whole year. “I don’t know, maybe explore both schools? I’m sure at least some parts has changed. I want to be familiar with everything again. Rest? I’m hoping I could get some before another school year start.” Dovey nodded, listening carefully like it’s some kind of life and death words “Whatever is on the table really.” They make a beeline, towards Lyanna’s room. Walking for almost half of the day really tired the life of her. Also Dovey have some duties to do and Lyanna knows what but Dovey would never mention that, not when she wanted to spend time with the younger woman.
Busy chatting with each other. The two latter didn’t notice a kid run to their direction causing Lyanna to almost fall on the floor when the said little girl hit her side. The three of them look at each other, surprised by one another’s presence. Dovey’s holding Lyanna by the arm, pulling her up “Hi, are you hurt?” She asked to the kid who’s looking straight at her like she’d seen an angel flung out of sky “Mobley, why are you running? Where is your aunty Beth?” Clarissa asked. The kid has chubby cheeks, eyes colored with dark brown. She’s blonde and pale. Lyanna couldn’t get her eyes away from Mobley and Dovey noticed it. She knows the adoration that Lyanna have for children. Lyanna loves their smell, fluffy cheeks, and sweet voice “Room.” Said she, pointing at her behind. Dovey kneel in front of Mobley and reach out to grab her hand “Do you want me to take you to your aunty?” But Mobley didn’t answer and instead just stare behind her, at Lyanna. “Who’s her?” Dovey laugh a little, Mobley is just three and a half, no wonder she still talks like that.
“That is princess Lyanna, Mobley. Do you want to say hi?” Lyanna could not contain herself anymore and finally joined Dovey “Hi, sweetheart. I’m Lyanna.” She have this big smile creeping on her lips. My Mobley smile and do a little courtesy for her. Dovey and Lyanna look at each other, sharing the same stares that say “Did you see that?” Lyanna inch a little closer, now holding the girl’s shoulder “She’s pretty, what is her name?” She asked, noticing the doll on Mobley's arm “She is Samantha. She’s my best friend.” She then offered it to Lyanna, waiting for her to take the doll. “Play?” Dovey watch as Lyanna sit on the floor and grab Mobley on her lap. The two played with the doll as though they’ve known each other like no one else does. “I also had a doll when I was a kid, her name is Luella. She have the same her as yours..” Mobley look up to Lyanna and listen intently “Though her eyes are different. She have orbs like deep ocean, it’s beautiful.” And they continue to sit and talk like that for another minute. Mobley’s clearly buying her story.
Dovey let her mind wonder as to what kind of a mother Lyanna would possibly become someday. She’ll be the type of parent who would read her daughter or son a bed time story every night. Or the kind that would set aside her works just to play with them. Spend the weekend cooking her daughter’s favorite pie. Dovey can already pictured it. Any kid would be so lucky to have Lyanna as their mom. No one can love a child more than Lyanna could and everybody knows that. Dovey knows. A family, that’s what Lyanna always wanted so as Dovey. For some reason Clarissa start to imagine herself and a woman in a house with children running on the living room. Her heart throb by that sight. They’re sitting on a big sofa with their daughter on the center. A wife of her is reading a story for their daughter while she’s brushing her hair.
“Dove?” She look at Lyanna then to Mobley “She wants to see her mom now, what do we do?” Dovey brush away her thoughts and stand up. Mentally slapping herself for even thinking about it. There’s so many questions running around her mind right now. “Come here, baby. Let me take you to Elizabeth.” She grab Mobley’s hand while Lyanna do the same to the other side. They walk hand in hand, like Mobley’s their own child. The two continue to talk about dolls and animals while Dovey just listen to them, still having this smile she couldn’t wear off. “How did you know her, Dove?” Lyanna asked, looking down to the kid “She’s Elizabeth’s niece, one of the teachers here. Mobley’s been here since she’s a baby. She’s basically everyone’s child.” The three of them make a little jump while walking with their hands swaying back and forth.
“I’m so sorry, Clarissa. I’m so busy I didn’t notice that she left.” Elizabeth take Mobley from them, feeling really sorry that her child disturb the two women “It’s fine. Lyanna loved her.” Both of them then look at Lyanna who’s eyes are pierced on Mobley “She’s very kind and adorable, Elizabeth. A precious and beautiful girl.” Elizabeth nodded, a way of thanking her. She couldn’t thank her with words though. Elizabeth is nervous just by having the presence of Lyanna in her own room. “We’ll be going now then. Don’t let her go outside again, it’s getting darker.” Dovey then give Mobley a hug “Be a good girl to your aunty, okay? I’ll give you some chocolate next time if you behave.” Mobley giggles and nod at her “Say good bye to Lyanna now.” And by that, the kid run to Lyanna. Hugging both of her legs “Honey…” She hug it back and caresses her hair “You,” Mobley mumbled suddenly, pointing her tiny index finger at Lyanna “….my mama” Lyanna look at Dovey. They’re both surprised by that, even Elizabeth. Mobley said that like Lyanna doesn’t have a choice but to take her as her child.
“I can’t wait to see her again.” Lyanna said right after closing the door behind her “She called you her mama.” Dovey mentioned again, causing Lyanna to blush and smile “She call me her mama.” She repeated, emphasizing the words “You’re having a baby fever.” She teased but Lyanna just nodded and laugh. What’s the use of denying it if it’s already obvious “Well, you saw her. She’s so cute I want to pinch her cheeks.” Dovey opened the door for Lyanna whilst still laughing “I know, I love that kid too. Usually when I have free time I’d take her and we would go to the garden. I’ll pick her whatever flowers she wants.” Lyanna sit at the end of the bed and look at Dovey “I wish could really be her real mama, Dovey. I want her to be my baby.” Dovey just smile. Fighting the urge to say things that would ruin the moment, whatever it is, she isn’t sure either. “You’re going to see her tomorrow. Change now and rest.” But none of them move an inch. They just stare like it’s going to be the last time they’re going to see each other “I’m happy you’re here.” Those words has been stored in Dovey’s mind for who knows how long. She’s just looking for the right time to say it. Now’s the perfect time with just the two of them. “I really am.”
“Thank you for being patient with me, Dovey. Thanks for waiting.” Lyanna would never admit that she’s scared that when she comes back. Dovey and Lesso would not take her. That they wouldn’t want to do anything with her anymore. She’s afraid that being away for that long makes the two realized that they’re better off without her. It took months before she finally agreed to the headmaster, giving it a chance. When Lesso treated her like that she felt like sobbing, she wanted to leave as soon as Lesso said those words. Thinking that she should not have really come back. Until now she’s still careful with everything, scared that she’ll cross the two woman’s boundaries without her knowing it. They’re now grown up people, of course a lot of things has changed. She’s just trying to convince herself that everything is still the same as she left them. Especially, Lesso. She feels like a different person now.
“Because you promised you would comeback. You never lie to me, Lya. That’s why I waited.” Maybe if only Lyanna said the same thing to Lesso, she wouldn’t have hated her for those years. If she just told her the real reason why she left. But then Lyanna didn’t think about Lesso at that time, at all. It was selfish because both of them are her friends yet for some reason she likes Dovey more, Lesso is aware of that no matter how many times Lyanna says that she love the both of them equally. “You’re worrying about something, I can sense that.” Of course she knows. It’s Dovey after all. She’d spent half of her life knowing every little things about Lyanna. She knows when Lyanna’s afraid, happy or lying. She can read her like an open book “You’re here now. You, Lesso, and I are together again so stop worrying anymore. We’re going to take care of you, just like before.” Dovey then gave her an assuring smile, hoping it could make Lyanna feel a little better “I know, Dove. Really thank you.”
