Chapter 39

The pups continued to brave through the forest with Chase leading the way. Everest and Skye at the back as look-outs while Sylvia was in the middle. To them she was the most vulnerable since she had no experiences in these type of thing and she was still rather timid at times.

As they walk Skye tried her best and continued to comfort Everest. As they got closer Everest started to hear whispers get louder. She decided to switch in front and lead the way. As they go deeper the voice got louder gradually.

"Are we close?" Chase asked.

"Yeah, the voice is getting louder." Everest replied.

"Strange I don't hear anything." Skye said.

"I think Mistress is the only one that's able to hear it. I've heard about this phenomenon before but I've never seen one myself." Silvia said.

"Where exactly did you hear it?" Skye asked.

"I don't know. These information keep popping up in my mind but they're all fragmented and I'm not sure where they come from exact."

"Well at least they're pretty handy." Skye said.

"We're here." Everest suddenly stopped and said.

"I don't see anything. " Chase said looking around.

"Guys, are brambles supposed to be that... Tall?" Skye pointed towards the 15 meter tall thorny bush in front of them.

"Wow." Chase stared at the thing in awe. "I've never seen anything like that.

" I have a feeling that whatever is calling us is behind that." Skye said.

"Okay but how do we get through? We don't have anything that can cut through that." Chase said.

Silvia was looking around and spotted a very tall and old looking tree. Upon a closer look she noticed one of the branches extending over the wall of brambles.

"Hey look! Maybe we can climb up and walk on the branch to get  across?"

Everyone looked up to where she was pointing.

"That might actually work!" Chase agreed.

"Good job, Silvia!" Everest chirped. Silvia smiled wittingly. They all walked to the trunk of the old tree, it's gigantic roots and vines wrapped around its body serving as a big staircase for them. As they were about to climb Chase suddenly paused.

"Um..."

"What's wrong Chase?" Everest asked.

"Nothing! Nothing I just um... Since we're climbing, and you being girls, I feel like I should take the lead." He said with a flustered look on his face.

"Um.. Okay?" Skye looked at him weirdly.

Chase breathed a sigh of relief as he started to climb around the tree using the vines as stairs. Meanwhile the girls at the back were whispering to each other.

"Psst! Hey Skye, don't you think his actions was weird earlier?" Everest nudged at Skye in front.

"Um. No? Why?"

Meanwhile Silvia at back had to try and keep up. The vine wasn't very wide  with just enough space to have one pup walk on them one at a time. So because she was at the back she had to keep her head down. Otherwise looking up would mean she would stare at Everst's...

"Seriously? Even I can tell WHY he decided to go ahead first!" She thought to herself. "I'm impressed tho. Big brother Chase is a gentleman... Dog, after all."
