As I landed on my crummy bed, I let myself cry. I let myself let out everything that I have been holding in.
All of my anger and sadness started to come out.
How could someone kill my parents knowing that they had a young daughter. Then, play with me until I break. It's almost like he wants me to break. To figure something out.
I wanted to do unspeakable things to my parents killer. I wanted to make him suffer for what he has done to me.
Now, my hate was taken to a whole new level. I walked across the room, stomping my feet. When I got to my desk, I stopped dead in my tracks. Not only had I found what I had wanted, but something was going on with the room.
The lights started to flicked and blow. I look around me and saw that everything was waving in a odd, mixed up harmony. I knew exactly what this was. There was an earthquake happening right around the building.
I grabbed the photo of my parents from the desk, grabbed my purse, and headed out the door.
I remember when I first moved in. I begged for a room on something higher than two, so I got put on the third floor. Right now, when I had to run down the stairs for dear life, I really regretted my previous decision.
I ran as fast as my legs would allow me to. I finally made it to the lobby just as I was about to pass out. I stopped running and one of the volunteers, Don, I think, picked me up bridal style and carried me out to where all of the other kids were.
As we arrived, they were doing a head count. "Here's the last one," Don said, placing me next to Kayla. I looked over to see who he was talking to and saw Sammy.
Kayla turned to me and asked, "what the heck happened. I thought the nearest plates were not for, at least, a whole state over." "I have no idea, maybe the scientists were wrong," I replied.
Kayla kept talking to be but I zoned her out. All I needed to do right now was find Max.
It took me a few minutes, but I finally found him. I just got up and started heading to him. I was stopped by Sammy.
"What do you think you are doing," he said in his stern voice. "Going to Max," I stated, showing I'm not afraid of him.
"Well, I'm afraid that you will have to wait until we dismiss you guys from your spots. Sorry," Sammy said. As he walked away, I felt the anger boil up again, but this time I held it in. I headed back to Kayla and her family as if nothing has ever happened.
We just sat there, all of us, waiting for the paramedics. Some of us passed time by talking and others thinking. I kept busy by averting my gaze from Max to the small crater right behind the orphanage that was just barley visible from where I sat. I kept thinking, just as everybody else, how it had happened. It was just so random, and just was suddenly full force. And then just suddenly stopped. This just didn't make any sense.
When the paramedics finally arrives, they asked for the older kids to go find their younger siblings. I went straight to Max without a second thought. I took him in for a hug the moment he saw me.
The paramedics checked us both out and said that we were both fine.
This earthquake was nice and snall, that goodness. No one got hurt at Aunt Betty's or any of the people anywhere near the shake zone.
Max was talking with some of his friends when on my lap when a man came over to me.
"Hello, sorry to bother you, but are you Lexi Adams?" The man said. He looked familiar, but I couldn't tell where I had seen him before "Yes, why?" I asked in a very cautious tone. By this point many people were looking out way so I had nothing to worry about.
"Here, I was told to give this to you by someone named Kara," the man said holding out the letter.
At the mention of Kara's name, I'm guessing my eyes lit up. I was really hoping for some good or bad news on my parents.
"Thank you," I said taking the letter.
The man nodded and walked away.
I decided to wait and open the letter later, when I was alone. I put the envelope inside my purse along with the picture of my parents.
"Can I have your attention please," Loretta was shouting. As soon as it got quiet she continued. "Alright, now, as you see, we don't have many beds tonight. If you have a fried that you know that you and maybe someone else from here can stay at for tonight, that would be wonderful. I just require for the parent or guardian to come and sign you out." You may call now."
With that announcement, I whipped out my phone.
Max saw the phone and asked "can I come with you?" "Of corse buddy, why would I leave you here?" I replied. That brought a smile to his face "Who are you calling?" Max asked me. "I'm going to call someone who may be able to take us for the night." I replied. And with that I pressed the phone to my ear.
After three rings, Leo picked up the phone."Hello." "Hey Leo, it's me, I need to ask a huge favor from your parents."
