Lexi's POV

I don't remember this school being so big and crowded. Why was I so scared today. This was so unlike me. I hoped off the bus and found Leo. We started walking into the school to our lockers. "Hey, is it just me, or has this school gotten more crouded than usual,' I told Leo. "No," Leo said, "it's the exact same as it was. Why, is the famous Lexi Adams scared?" Leo said in a mocking tone. I hit him in the arm and he stuck his tongue out at me. "I'm serious. You seem really scared. And you are never nervous or anything like this. What's going on with you?" Leo said, real concern covering his face.

I hesitated, "well, maybe I'm a little nervous. You know how I get at school. There is tests and stuff and then there is the feud between the smart kids and the average kids. I hate school." "Oh, come on, it's not that bad. The tests is the only thing you have to worry about, but if you LISTEN for the rest if the year, you won't have a problem," Leo said. With a last smile and good bye, Leo and I walked into different directions to our lockers.

I arrived into my first class; history class, my favorite! This year is all about the time of kings and queens, magic, creatures, and the legends. So it's right up my ally.

I take my usual seat alone in the back of the classroom. I wait for the bell to ring, signaling the beginning of class. As I sat there waiting, a girl comes up and sits next to me. I look at the girl. She is a tiny girl. Maybe about 4ft. 10. She had waist length blonde hair and petty features, almost like a fairy. She also has bright green eyes.

I cleared my throat. "Um... Excuse me. What are you doing?" I asked her. She looked up at me and smiled at me. "Oh, sorry, where are my manors. I'm Maria Anthony. In new here. I thought you needed a study buddy, so I sat here," she said all in one jumble. Then she held out her hand. I shook it wearily. This girl was way too perky.

"I'm Lexi Adams. I usually sit alone so excuse all if my rudeness, I'm not a people person," I said, getting comfy in my chair, slouching down, so I would go unnoticed.

"So your Lexi Adams. You have changed so much!!" Maria said, pulling me into a hug.

"What the heck!" I said pushing her away. "What the heck do you mean?!" "You don't remember me? We went to kindergarten and first grade together. You, Leo, and me and my brother, Jack; the inseparable foursome." Maria stopped and looked at me.

She saw my confused expression and continued on. "You honestly don't remember! OMG! I so thought you would." "Well," I started, "I faintly remember a Jack. The two troublemakers, but that is it." "Oh, well I'm Jack's sister. Are you and Leo still really close? How are y'all's parents?" The questions just went on and on.

At the one about our parents, I looked down. Maria saw and abruptly stopped. "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, did I say something?" "Oh no it's fine. Just my parents..." Maria looked at me with grief on her face. If she wanted to push she didn't, thank goodness. "I'm so sorry," she said. I just nodded my head.

Then the bell rang and the teacher walked in the room. Class had begun.

Leo's POV

Class began, and the teacher walked in with a boy our age looking miserable at her heals. He looked familiar but I couldn't place him.

"Good morning class," Mrs. Bahorski, my math teacher said. "We have a new student this morning!" she pointed to the boy behind her. "This is Jack Anthony. He and his sister are starting back here today after six years in Europe."

She then turned to Jack. "Jack you will be sitting up at that table," she pointed to my table, "right next to Leo. The boy with the brown hair and glasses." She smiled at him. "Thanks, " Jack said, and smiled at the teacher.

"Hey," Jack said sitting down in the desk furthest away from the front at our table. "I'm Jack, do I know you from somewhere?" he asked me. "I... I don't know, I was wondering the same thing," I responded nervously.

I hated meeting new people without Lexi, you know, just incase I end up making a fool out of myself.

Jack looked at me funky. "Kindergarden and First grade. I think we were all in the same class!" Jack exclaimed, so sure of himself. "What do you mean by 'all of us' " I said. Jack laughed. " You know, Lexi, Maria my sister, you and me! The teachers hated Lexi and I, you and Maria always made it so that our punishment less severe. Oh my goodness, you seriously don't remember." "Nope," I said. "Well, how about we all sit together at lunch."

"Boys! Stope talking!" Mrs. Bahorski said. "Sounds good," I said under my breathe. Jack smiled.

Lexi's POV

After history, I had ELA(English language arts) with Leo. Turned out, I did know Jack. We still really got along too. Leo also knew Maria.

Me and Jack had all but 1st hour together. Maria and I had first hour, and right after lunch together. The rest of the day wized past until the last bell rung.

Turned out we all rode the same bus and Jack and Maria lived in Leo's neighborhood. So on the bus I naturally sat in my usual window seat across from Leo, and Maria followed. "So, how was your day?" Maria asked me, sitting down next to me.

"Good," I responded, " yours?" "Just wonderful, I met these people, maybe you know them, their names are Leo and Lexi best friends," she shrugged. I laughed. "Oh yea, I think I now them. Leo real dorky and Lexi brave." This time she laughed. "Ya... That sounds about right." We giggled and the guys on the other side of the bus gave us a weird look. I just waved and Jack looked so confused.

When we got off the bus, we invited Maria and Jack over to Leo's. Max wasn't home yet and Leo's parents don't get home from work until 6 on Mondays.

First we stopped at their new house and asked their parents and they agreed. So then we headed over to Leo's house, which was only 3 houses across and down the road. The four of us just sat on the couch catching up. Soon it was dinner time and we decided to order pizza. When the pizza guy got here, I went into my room to grab my wallet.

My wallet was in my purse. When I was grabbing my purse, I saw a letter. I forgot all about this! This is the letter that Kara sent for me to have the night of the earthquake. I tucked it away in my back pocket and walked out into the living room to pay.
