Chapter 9- the dutiful and disobedient (Edited)
After their exhausting morning activities, they took a shower again, or more like Nickolas washed her, while she laid in the bathtub.
Vittoria mind was in a chaos.
No.
No.
No.
He couldn't just bombard her with such an expensive present and expect her to act like a dutiful and loving wife.
Obviously it was a very sweet gesture, but it did not make up for a year of negligence.
A year of simply being left out in the dark.
Multiple dinners, where she just waited for hours for him to show up.
Multiple nights where she slept on a cold bed.
Moreover when she questioned him where he went to, last night after her little teasing display, he told her he had gone down to the lounge and worked all night.
Was that normal? she wondered.
Vittoria's father had always been a workaholic, but he still made time for her mom and Vittoria.
But then again, Vittoria's father had never touched the level of success that Nickolas had achieved in the past 12 years.
Nickolas had built an empire.
There was a time she had tried to follow his every successful move, tracing newspapers, and financial websites.
However, after a while, she realised it had become impossible to follow his every successful move. There were just too many to keep count.
Instead she traced the lines on his face every night, in the initial months of their relationship. He pleasured her immensely, listening to her talk for hours in bed and giving her the most thoughtful presents- things she had mentioned she wanted, in passing. He had always been reserved, but he was so attentive earlier.
"What are you thinking about, love?" He questioned softly in her ear.
Just at that moment, his phone rang, and his eyes drifted away from hers.
He got out of the tub, and took the call.
"Yes?" He answered, "No, Damia, I'll be busy today."
Damia.
His dutiful assistant.
Vittoria thought bitterly, that his assistant probably spoke more to him than she did in a day.
She slowly got out of the tub.
His eyes were trained on her once again.
After she wrapped the bathrobe around her, she headed to the closet.
She picked out the first sundress she found.
"I'll let you know." He cut the call.
He approached her silently.
"too bad Damia's all in Germany on her own, sounds like she has a tough job." Vittoria voiced, as she put on her sundress.
After a moment's silence, Nickolas answered, "She's here."
Vittoria stilled, "Was she with you last night?"
Another momentary silence.
Vittoria knew the answer even before he said yes.
A meek silence followed.
Vittoria weighed her options.
Throw him out of the window.
